WWE Referee Explains Why He Stopped Seth Rollins vs. Bray Wyatt

WWE Referee Offers Explanation On Why He Stopped Seth Rollins vs. Bray Wyatt

The controversial Hell in a Cell match for the Universal Title ended once Seth Rollins hit Bray Wyatt in the head with a sledgehammer, which caused the referee to stop the match.

This caused quite a backlash with fans.

As noted, WWE is not calling the finish a disqualification. Instead, they are saying that the referee made the call to stop the match when Rollins was threatening to use a sledgehammer on Wyatt. Nevermind the fact that Wyatt brought a massive mallet into the ring and there were several other items used as weapons earlier in the match.

In an attempt to make sense of what went down on Sunday, WWE’s The Bump got a statement from referee Rod Zapata on why he decided to stop the match.

“With Bray motionless, and Seth clearly doing whatever it was going to take to win that match…I had to think of the competitor’s safety and at that moment, I did what I thought was best.”
