AEW is making it clear that that they are not considering themselves to be in a wrestling war with WWE, even though Vince McMahon sees things differently.
Security at the Captial One Arena was told to make sure anti-WWE signs were not allowed into the arena. Dave Meltzer noted in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that there is a no profanity and no politics rule in effect so don’t expect Jack Swagger to play up his affinity for Donald Trump like he does in real life. During the AEW Dynamite post-show press conference, Tony Khan made it clear that Swagger saying “We The People” was not a hint that politics would be involved with his character.
Meltzer noted how a “Vince Fears Ratings” sign made it to TV but that was because security didn’t realize what the sign was about. It was confiscated immediately.
During the Monday Night War between WWE and WCW, signs that trashed the competition were always shown and there were tricks done to hurt the other show such as starting a few minutes early or adding an overrun to get an artificial ratings boost. It does not look like AEW will be doing any of that and they will focus on their own show rather than reacting to what WWE is doing with NXT on USA.
