Vince McMahon Reportedly Furious Over Email That Was Sent Out About Heyman and Bischoff TV Return

There was some head scratching in WWE over the emails that were sent out on Friday hyping that Paul Heyman would be on Raw on Monday night as an on-air authority figure and Eric Bischoff would be returning this Tuesday night on SmackDown Live.

WWE made it clear on Thursday that Heyman and Bischoff’s roles as Executive Directors of their respective brands are legitimate behind-the-scenes positions and there were no plans for them to be on-air characters. In Heyman’s case, he would only be an on-air character for storylines pertaining to Brock Lesnar.

People in WWE were trying to find out if the emails were real and who sent them out. It turns out that the emails were legitimate and they came from someone in WWE’s marketing department but they were never supposed to include Heyman and Bischoff.

Bryan Alvarez discussed this on Figure Four Daily with Lance Storm on Friday night and he described what he was told by people in WWE.

“I start texting and emailing people there and I’m like ‘what’s going on? Just 24 hours ago these guys were not gonna be TV characters,’” Alvarez said. “The first couple of people that I text are also baffled and one of them notes there was a meeting last night that went to 4:23 am but it was only Raw. Nobody has even pitched anything for SmackDown yet. I was also told that last week because of the pay-per-view, Vince didn’t even look at the SmackDown script until he was on his way to SmackDown.”

Alvarez began to think that the emails sent out on Friday were fake but then fans started forwarding the emails they received so he knew they were real.

Alvarez added that people in WWE had no idea what was going on. Then, an email blast was sent out advertising Paul Heyman for Raw even though Heyman was never mentioned during the creative meeting for Raw.

Alvarez continued, “The story is Vince, I guess is trying not to micromanage everything like he has done in the past plus he has the XFL coming up. So apparently, he’s not micromanaging the department that’s sending out these email blasts … 24 hours later, the people in that department still thought that Heyman and Bischoff were gonna be television characters and so they put together this email blast advertising them as being there as characters. I don’t know how it got through all of these channels but it got sent out to everybody around the time that I got it and everybody else got it. Vince got it. Vince was furious, not understanding why this was sent out and so at this moment, Heyman and Bischoff are not supposed to be television characters but because the email blast was sent out, there is the chance that they’re gonna have to put them on TV because it’s been advertised. This is a 7 billion dollar company with 500 employees and this is what happened in the last 24 hours. So that’s the story.”

So, just to recap … Heyman will be in charge of Raw and Bischoff will be in charge of SmackDown Live. Both men will report directly to Vince McMahon but WWE has no plans to feature them as on-air characters (except for when Heyman is doing something with Brock Lesnar) but McMahon may feel that he needs to follow through and have them appear next week after the emails that were sent out on Friday.
