For those of you wondering if WWE is planning a swerve for Kurt Angle’s retirement match, the answer is NO.
PWInsider is reporting that Baron Corbin is the planned opponent for Angle and it was not meant to be a swerve that would lead to someone else. Many fans are hoping for John Cena but that seems unlikely right now unless Vince McMahon decides to take the fans’ concerns into consideration.
Obviously, Corbin was picked by McMahon and not Angle. The word going around is that Angle wanted a higher-profile name for his farewell match. I was told that he did not know who he would be facing until he got to Raw on Monday.
As for the fans, obviously the anger is being directed at WWE because fans know that Angle was just following the script that was laid out for him. In addition to the fan reaction, Jim Ross and Angle’s wife Giovanna expressed their dissatisfaction with the announcement.
WWE Hall Of Famer Jim Ross said the announcement was “underwhelming.”
Underwhelming. https://t.co/BzUZL4Ip1A— Jim Ross (@JRsBBQ) March 19, 2019
Kurt Angle’s wife, Giovanna Angle, in a now-deleted tweet, simply responded “very” in response to the tweet from Jim Ross…as in “very” underwhelming. She also added the following:
Guys, it’s pro wrestling. Its like watching a movie. I’m no way upset with my husband wrestling Corbin. Lol I love having fun with yall. But It is really nice to see how many fans support Kurt on how he should be sent off. ❤ #AllLove— Giovanna Angle (@GiovannaAngle) March 19, 2019
In another now-deleted Tweet, Giovanna also said:
Well, this is a fresh start for the company as they said months ago they will start listening to the fans. 🤷♀️ who knows.
There’s still a couple of weeks left before WrestleMania so there is still time to make a change and maybe that can happen if the fans are vocal enough about it like they were about Kofi Kingston.
