Daniel Cormier vs. Derrick Lewis for the UFC World Heavyweight Championship took place at UFC 230 in Madison Square Garden in New York City.
Lewis went into the fight looking a lot leaner than he was last month and Cormier was a lot heavier at 251 pounds and he has been dealing with a hand injury.
Round 1 – Cormier took Lewis down within the first minute and he didn’t have to work hard for the takedown. Lewis got up but was back down again within seconds.
Round 2 – Lewis got a couple of shots in early but Cormier took him down. Lewis got up quickly but Cormier had him up against the cage and then dragged him back down to the ground. Cormier took his back and forced him to tap out. Easy night for Cormier.
The fans seemed disappointed because they were expecting Lewis to nail a knockout.
In the post-fight interview, Cormier said, “Brock Lesnar, when you come bring that brand new WWE title so I feel like being the WWE champion too. Bring that belt with you if you come to my house.”
Cormier’s next fight believed to be against Brock Lesnar but he also wants Jon Jones. Cormier has stated that he expects the Lesnar fight to happen in February or March.
"BROCK! When you come, bring that WWE title with you!" 👀
