WWE Smackdown Results - October 23, 2018
We are live from the Prudential Center in Newark, NJ, and The New Day make their way to the ring and they have something to say, and we find out that they will get their rematch at Crown Jewel.

Xavier says that the New Day were cheated and defeated by the Bar last week. Kofi says they didn't set the bar, they lowered the bar. Kofi says that they took advantage of the situation but Kofi says he has a hard time wrapping his head around Big Show. Xavier asks if Big Show is the Bar-Tender. Big E says that they thought Big Show was cool, but he flips back and forth more times than a flapjack. Kofi says they want some retribution and he does not give a damn who it is.

The music hits and out comes new SmackDown Tag Team Champions The Bar with Big Show. Tom says each team will select a member to go into singles action to start the show.

Big Show vs. Kofi Kingston

Kofi with a drop kick as the bell rings and Show chops Kofi in the corner. Show with a hard Irish whip and chop in the corner. Show with a biel and then he sets for a choke slam and hits it. Show picks up Kofi by the throat and hits a second choke slam. Show looks at Big E and Woods before hitting a third choke slam. Big E and Woods come in and Sheamus and Cesaro do as well so the referee calls for the bell.

Winner by DQ: Big Show

After the bell, all six Superstars brawl and go at it. The dust settles and Show chokeslams Big E in the middle of the ring. Show calls for The Bar to hold Woods next and he drops him with the knockout punch. Show and The Bar stand tall in the middle of the ring to mostly boos as Show's music hits. Show grabs Woods and delivers another chokeslam in the middle of the ring. Cesaro talks trash in Woods' face before the group exits the ring.

- Still to come, Rey Mysterio on MizTV. Also, The Usos vs. AJ Styles and Daniel Bryan in a rematch from last week.

- Back from the break and Tom shows us a video package from last night's RAW with Roman Reigns relinquishing the WWE Universal Title and announcing time off to battle leukemia again.

Daniel Bryan and AJ Styles vs. Jimmy Uso and Jey Uso

Jimmy and Bryan start things off and they lock up. Bryan with a side head lock. Bryan with a shoulder tackle and side head lock. Jey makes the tag and Bryan clotheslines Jey over the top rope to the floor. Styles drop kicks Jimmy to the floor. Styles and Bryan with stereo planchas and they return to the ring as we go to commercial.

Jimmy helps Jey up and they try to figure out their strategy. Styles tags in and he locks up with Jey. Styles with a snap mare and kick to the back. AJ sends Jey into the turnbuckles and tags Bryan in. Daniel goes to the turnbuckles and hits a double sledge on the arm. Bryan with an arm wringer and he slams the arm over his shoulder. Jimmy tags in and the Usos double team Bryan with punches and kicks.

Jey tags in and they make a wish with Bryan. Jimmy tags in and they make another wish with Bryan. Jey tags in and he head butts Bryan in the abdomen. Jey follows with a belly-to-back suplex for a near fall. Jimmy tags back in and he kicks Bryan and applies a reverse chin lock. Jimmy with a back elbow and he tags Jey in and they kick Bryan. Jimmy tags in and Jey with a back breaker and Jimmy with an elbow off the turnbuckles for a near fall.

Bryan with elbows to get out of the chin lock. Bryan punches Jey on the apron and then Jimmy in the ring. Bryan and Jimmy go for cross body presses at the same time and both men are down. Styles and Jey tag in and Styles with strikes and a clothesline. Styles with a knee on the apron to Jimmy. Styles with a shoulder and he flips into the ring and hits an ushigoroshi for a near fall. Styles with a Calf Crusher in Jey and Jimmy breaks it up. Bryan punches Jimmy and Jimmy with a thrust kick and belly-to-back suplex but Bryan lands on his feet and sends Jimmy to the floor. Styles sets for the Phenomenal forearm but Jey moves and Styles almost hits Bryan. AJ with a Pele Kick that accidentally hits Bryan. Jimmy tags in and hits a frog splash for the three count.

Winners: Jimmy Uso and Jey Uso

After the match, Bryan and Styles stare at each other trying to figure out what just happened.

- We have a video package for the Raw Women's Championship match between Ronda Rousey and Nikki Bella. We go to commercial.


We are back and Daniel Bryan and AJ Styles are stopped in the back. AJ is asked if what he did was an accident even if it looked like what happened last week. AJ says last week was an accident, just like last week. Daniel says that he respect AJ so last week was definitely an accident. AJ wonders if Daniel does not believe him. Daniel says that AJ's nose is growing. Daniel holds up his hand for a Too Sweet and AJ walks away.

Earlier This Week:

We take a look at an incident at the WWE Performance Center when Charlotte showed up to talk to the women in NXT to motivate them. She tells people not to look down on people or act like they are better. Charlotte says that Evolution is happening because of what happened in these rings.

Charlotte is asked about the difference between NXT, Raw, and Smackdown. Charlotte talks about showing your character to different crowds. Lacey Lane asks Charlotte about being in a Last Woman Standing Match and Becky Lynch interrupts saying that they should listen to the champ. Becky says not to make friends with anybody because they will blindside you. You have to strike before they strike you. She tells everyone to watch Evolution to take notes about what she is going to do to Charlotte.

Becky attacks Charlotte and they fight . Charlotte sends Becky into the apron and Becky kicks Charlotte. Both women are separated.


Charlotte tells Becky after all of the attacks and insults, what you did at the Performance Center was unforgivable. You destroyed the foundation that they built. This is not about titles. You have changed. There is no going back because there is no line you won't cross. Charlotte says when she wins her title back, she won't be standing over a defeated opponent, it will be a friend who lost their way.

- Rusev and Lana make their way to the ring as we go to commercial.

Aiden English vs. Rusev (with Lana)

Rusev chases Aiden around the ring and Lana stops Aiden. Rusev with a punch and he sends Aiden into the ringside barrier. Rusev sends Aiden back into the ring but Aiden with a kick as Rusev comes back into the ring and Aiden with a swinging neck breaker. Aiden kicks Rusev in the corner. Aiden looks at Lana and tells her it is her fault. Lana throws her shoe at AIden and Rusev hits the Machka Kick. Rusev with a boot to the back and he applies the Accolade and Aiden taps out.

Winner: Rusev

After the match, Rusev takes his time releasing the hold.

- We see the Miz getting ready for MizTV as we go to commercial.


We are back and Miz is in the ring for MizTV.

Miz welcomes everyone to MizTV. One week ago, the world celebrated Smackdown 1000 and some of the best sports entertainment memories. Who could forget Becky Lynch cutting down Edge on his own show? What about Evolution for the first time on Smackdown? Miz defeated Rusev in record time to qualify for the World Cup. Miz says no one can forget a future Hall of Famer returning in grand fashion defeating the United States Champion to get a spot in the World Cup. Miz introduces his guest, Rey Mysterio.

Miz tells Rey the WWE Universe is thrilled to have him back. Miz says he is a bit curious why Rey is back.

Rey says it feels so good to be back home. The reason he is back...

Miz says that was not a question. You are back to show the world that the little man can achieve big things, that the little engine can climb up that hill. All dreams can come true. Miz says that is so very 90s of you. Miz says people are no longer interested in the plucky underdog. They are more interested in larger than life stars like him. While you have been on hiatus, Miz says that he has become the biggest star on Smackdown. He is the star of this network and the star of everything. He says he does it all and in 10 days, he will advance through the Smackdown bracket to face the Raw representative and prove to everyone that he is the Best in the World.

Miz says he is sorry to disappoint Rey.

Rey says he is very disappointed because he thought he was booked to be on TruthTV.

Miz asks Rey if that is a joke and if he wants a dance break. Miz says Truth was full of jokes and he beat Truth and the show got canceled. Miz says last week was an illegal broadcast and if Rey continues, he will get Rey canceled.

Rey says he did not come back to Smackdown to be on some dusty talk show. He came back to compete. Rey tells Miz if he has nothing else to say, he tells him to shut his mouth and let's throw down right now.

Miz tells Rey that no one wants to see them fight. Miz says it is not going to happen. Miz says he is a changed person and he would never... Miz kicks Rey and then continues the attack. Rey with an enzuigiri that sends Miz into the ropes and Miz is able to get away before Rey goes for a 619. We go to commercial.

Rey Mysterio vs. The Miz

Back from the break and both Superstars are in the ring as we get the bell. Back and forth to start until Rey takes control. Miz ends up on the floor and Rey hits a splash from the apron. Rey brings it back into the ring and nails a crossbody from the top.

Rey with more offense for the next few minutes. Rey mounts Miz in the corner with right hands as fans count along. Miz ends up side-stepping in the corner and sending Rey face-first into the turnbuckles as he leaped in. Miz works Rey around the ring now. Miz takes Rey down and puts a knee to the spine to keep him grounded. Rey fights out again but Miz sends him face-first into the turnbuckles again.

Rey blocks a Skull Crushing Finale attempt. Miz goes on but Rey blocks the Ripcord. Rey drops Miz into position for the 619 but Miz ducks it. Miz grabs Rey and drops him with a big DDT for a close 2 count. We go to commercial.

Back from the break and Miz delivers the Yes! Kicks to Rey. Rey counters but Miz boots him in the head for a quick pin attempt. Miz stalks Rey as he tries to get up. Miz sends Rey back into the turnbuckles. Fans chant 619 now. Miz pulls Rey up in the corner for a super Skull Crushing Finale but Rey counters and whips Miz to the mat. Rey with the seated senton and more offense. Miz dumps Rey to the apron but Rey nails an enziguri. Rey springboards in but Miz catches him in mid-air and nails a neckbreaker for another 2 count.

Rey counters and runs the ropes but Miz nails another big boot. Rey still kicks out at 2. Miz argues with the referee. Rey fights out of another Skull Crushing Finale attempt. Rey ends up dropping Miz into the ropes and nailing the 619. Rey drops the dime and gets the pin to win.

Winner: Rey Mysterio

- We see Jeff Hardy backstage. He will face Randy Orton tonight.

Naomi and Asuka vs. Mandy Rose and Sonya Deville

We go to the ring and out comes Naomi first. Asuka is out next and they head to the ring together. Back to commercial.

Before the match starts, Billie Kay and Peyton Royce make their way to the ring and they have something to say. Billie says she is so excited. Peyton asks what is exciting about Newark. Billie says she was talking about Sunday and Evolution. Petyon says they will make history by winning the battle royal and it will be Iiconic.

Lana's music plays and she makes her way to the ring.

Before she can speak, Carmella makes her way out. Carmella says no one wants to hear anyone talk, they want... A DANCE BREAK!!

Zelina Vega throws Carmella into the ring and everyone enters the ring. Carmella with a kick to Asuka. Naomi with a round kick to Carmella. Sonya with a spinebuster to Naomi. Peyton with a spinning heel kick to Lana in the corner. Vega throws Mandy over the top rope and then she hits a running double knee strike to Lana. Asuka comes up behind Vega and hits a spinning round kick to the temple. Asuka stands tall as her music hits.

- The announcers run through the card for Evolution.

- We see Randy Orton as we go to commercial.

We are back and Shane McMahon makes his way to the ring, but first he does the Shane-O Shuffle on the stage.

Shane greets the crowd and says there are a lot of firsts happening around WWE right now, like the first women's pay-per-view on Sunday. Shane congratulates the women who have made this possible and says it's well-deserved, and he can't wait to watch. Shane says another first is at WWE Crown Jewel with the World Cup tournament, which will give Superstars the chance to prove they are the best in the world. Fans start chanting CM Punk and Shane says he's not in the tournament. Shane believes someone from the blue brand will win and wonders if it could be Jeff Hardy, The Miz, Rey Mysterio or Randy Orton. Shane says we will find out who truly can be called the best in the world at Crown Jewel but that's then and this is now. Shane asks Newark if they are ready for tonight's main event.

Jeff Hardy vs. Randy Orton

The music hits as Jeff Hardy makes his way out to the ring. Randy Orton is out next. Back to commercial.

They lock up and Hardy with a side head lock and shoulder tackle. Hardy with a delete gesture but Orton with a kick. Hardy with a sit out jaw breaker and a mule kick. Hardy misses a splash into the corner when Orton moves. Orton with a European uppercut. Orton sends Hardy to the floor and slams Hardy's head into the ring steps. Orton gets a near fall when they return to the ring. Orton with the Garvin Stomp and then he kicks Hardy in the head and gets a near fall.

Orton with a reverse chin lock. Hardy gets to his feet and Orton pulls Hardy down by the hair. Orton with a standing drop kick for a near fall. Orton with a reverse chin lock. Hardy with elbows but Orton with a forearm to the back. Orton with an Irish whip and Hardy with a back elbow. Hardy goes to the turnbuckles but Orton crotches Jeff and puts him in the tree of woe. Orton with kicks to the chest. Orton goes for the hole in Hardy's ear lobe and then he pulls Jeff to the floor and sends Jeff into the announce table. Orton with a back drop driver onto the announce table.

Orton gets a near fall. Hardy with punches to Orton followed by a running forearm and reverse atomic drop and leg drop to the midsection. Hardy with a drop kick for a near fall. Hardy tries to delete Orton with a Twist of Fate but Orton escapes and sends Hardy into the turnbuckles. Hardy with a boot and Whisper in the Wind for a near fall. Hardy with a kick and Twist of Fate. Hardy goes to the turnbuckles but Orton rolls to the floor. Hardy goes to the apron and tries for a swanton off the apron but Orton moves.

Orton picks up Hardy to drag him back into the ring. Orton looks around for the twist to the mat and he sets for the RKO. Orton goes for the RKO but Hardy with a back slide for a near fall. Orton escapes a Twist of Fate and hits an RKO for the three count.

Winner: Randy Orton

After the match, Orton has his arm raised as the music hits. We go to replays. Orton poses in the corner and looks around as the announcers hype the World Cup tournament. SmackDown goes off the air with Orton posing in the corner.
