WWE Smackdown Results - September 4, 2018

We are live from the Little Caesars Arena in Detroit, Michigan. Renee Young is in the ring and she brings out Brie Bella and Daniel Bryan.

Renee mentions their match at Hell in a Cell and how things have gotten personal. We take a look back at what happened last week.

Daniel thanks Renee for bringing down the crowd after that video. Renee says there is another piece of footage for Daniel and Brie to see.

Miz and Maryse are in the ring before the building was opened and they call out Daniel and Brie. Miz says they are trying to save them the embarrassment of getting beaten down in front of millions of people again. Maryse says they are afraid of them.

Daniel says that is a perfect encapsulation of them. They attacked him and his wife from behind. Then they show up early and call Daniel and Brie out knowing that they were not there. Daniel says they call themselves the It Couple, but they are nothing but cowards. Brie says that they are cowards and cowards talk. They are not here to talk about what they are going to do. Brie says it is clearer than ever that they don’t have to wait until Hell in a Cell. Daniel says it is time to fight. Brie wants Miz and Maryse to come out.

Renee advises Daniel and Brie that Miz and Maryse are not in the building. Andrade Almas’ music plays and he comes to the stage with Zelina Vega.

Zelina says Daniel and Brie are crying in the ring about how unfair their lives are. Zelina thanks Renee for playing that footage from last week. Almas says it reminds him how much fun it was to walk all over the great Daniel Bryan. He says he is ready to do it again. Zelina says that Andrade wants to finish what he started, right now.

They march to the ring as Bryan gets ready for a fight. We go to commercial.

Daniel Bryan (with Brie Bella) vs. Andrade Almas (with Zelina Vega)

They jockey for position and Bryan with a wrist lock. Bryan with a side head lock and take down. Almas with a head scissors and Bryan escapes. Bryan with a wrist lock. Almas with a kick and side head lock. Almas with a shoulder tackle. Almas blocks a hip toss and Bryan lands on his feet and he kicks Almas in the arm. Bryan with kicks to the shoulder. Bryan continues to work on the left arm. Bryan goes for the Yes Lock but Almas gets to the ropes before it can be applied. Bryan continues to work on the arm but Almas with forearms.

Bryan with a European uppercut but Almas with a boot and spinning back elbow for a near fall. Almas with a triangle in the ropes and then he knocks Bryan off the apron with a running hip strike. Almas goes to the floor and chops Bryan. Almas slams the arm into the apron and he gets a near fall when they return to the ring. Almas misses a knee into the corner and goes over the top rope to the floor.

Bryan comes off the apron with a knee but Almas is able to stop Bryan with a drop kick. Both men are down on the floor. Almas gets a near fall. Almas with a kick to Bryan but Bryan with a back body drop to send Almas over the top rope to the floor. Bryan with a suicide dive onto Almas but Bryan holds his arm after the impact. They both return ot the ring before the referee can make the ten count but they are both down in the ring. Bryan and Almas exchange forearms and punches. Almas with kicks to Bryan. Almas with a chop in the corner but Bryan chops back. Almas with forearms.

Almas with a knee and forearms in the corner. Bryan with a flying clothesline and both men are down again. Bryan with a running drop kick into the corner followed by kicks to the chest. Bryan puts Almas on the turnbuckles for a Frankensteiner but Almas holds on and gets a near fall with a sunset flip. Almas with a Fujiwara arm bar. Bryan gets to the ropes to force Almas to release the hold.

Almas with a slam and he goes to the turnbuckles for a moonsault but Bryan recovers and crotches Almas on the top turnbuckle. Bryan puts Almas in the Tree of Woe and Bryan kicks Almas. Bryan with a baseball slide to Almas. Bryan goes up top and goes for a belly-to-back superplex but Almas knocks Bryan off the turnbuckles. Almas goes for the moonsault and Bryan moves but Almas lands on his feet and hits a standing moonsault for a near fall.

Almas with a forearm but Bryan with a European uppercut. Almas with a kick but Bryan with kicks. Bryan with a kick to the head followed by more kicks to the chest. Bryan misses the round kick and Almas sends Bryan head first into the bottom turnbuckle. Almas with a running double knee strike. Bryan avoids the hammerlock DDT and a running boot. Bryan with a round kick to the head and Bryan with the flying knee for the three count.

Winner: Daniel Bryan

After the match, Brie hits the ring to celebrate with Bryan as Vega checks on Almas. Brie turns and drops Vega, then hits her with a running knee to the face. Brie and Bryan lead a “yes!” chant until The Miz and Maryse appear on the big screen, taunting them. They have taken the night off to have date night, right here in Detroit at the finest Italian restaurant. Miz says they were at the arena looking for Bryan and Brie earlier but it looks like they will have to wait until Hell In a Cell to embarrass them again. They taunt Bryan and Brie some more before signing off. Bryan and Brie head to the back as Bryan’s music starts up.

– Still to come, The Usos vs. SAnitY vs. Rusev Day to determine who will face The Bar next week. Also, an exclusive interview with Becky Lynch and Charlotte Flair. Back to commercial.

– We are back and Daniel and Brie are leaving the building. They are asked why they are leaving. Daniel says they are going to grab some dinner. Brie says they are thinking Italian. Daniel says he hopes they don’t have a dress code.

– We take a look at the recent history between Becky Lynch and Charlotte Flair.

Becky Lynch and Charlotte Flair Interview:

Tom mentions that Becky and Charlotte are in different parts of the building for this interview.

Tom asks Charlotte if she can figure out why the friendship broke down. Charlotte says she won the title at SummerSlam but lost her best friend. Becky you thought it was your night and you thought you deserved it. Should she have laid down for Becky. Now you blame her.

Becky asks Charlotte if she wants more of her spotlight.

Charlotte says she is not going to deal with this pity party. You were an equal. All you had to do was ask for a title match after they embraced.

Becky tells Charlotte screw you and she says that she is not a charity case.

Charlotte reminds Becky that she attacked her from behind last week.

Becky says she is done playing and she will be taking. She says it was a full time job being your friend, managing your insecurities, reminding you that you were good enough to wear that robe. Becky says she is going to go back to the top of the Women’s Division. It does not matter how many time she has to beat her down, she will win that title back.

Charlotte says she is happy to see that fire again. She says they will meet at Hell in a Cell. She will not see her best friend across the ring. You were never second best as her friend, but in the ring you are second best.

Becky calls Charlotte delusional. She tells Charlotte to shine up that title because she will never see it again.

Tom thanks them for their time and confirms the match for Hell In a Cell but it will not be inside the Cell. They also plug Jeff Hardy vs. Randy Orton, which takes place inside the Cell.

Naomi vs. Peyton Royce

We go to the ring and out comes Naomi as Greg Hamilton does the introductions. Back to commercial.

We are back and Billie Kay and Peyton Royce have something to say. Billie says that Naomi likes getting beaten by her. Peyton says Naomi enjoys losing to her. They go back and forth. Peyton says you will soon understand that they are the future and the future is Iiconic.

Naomi with a punch and forearms in the corner. The referee holds Naomi back and Peyton with a slap and forearms. Peyton with forearms and she chokes Naomi in the ropes. Billie gets a shot in on Naomi when the referee was pulling Peyton off Naomi. Peyton misses a round kick and so does Naomi. Naomi with a kick and a baseball slide that takes care of Billie. Naomi with a kick and sunset flip for the three count.

Winner: Naomi

After the match, Billie attacks Naomi and sends her into the turnbuckles and then into the ring post. Billie with a full nelson and Peyton with a knee to the head. Asuka’s music plays and she makes her way to the ring. Asuka drop kicks Peyton and then hits Billie with a spinning back fist. Asuka with a German suplex to Peyton followed by a Shining Wizard. Asuka goes to the floor and checks on Naomi, helping her to her feet as The IIconics look on from the ramp.

– We take a look at the feud between Jeff Hardy and Randy Orton. Jeff says his eyes are opened and his mind is cleared. His adrenaline is spiking because he knows what is next. Randy Orton tried to clip his wings. Randy Orton tried to erase his identity. Why? He resents the connection that Jeff has with the WWE Universe. He despises his self expression and reckless abandon he shows in the ring. Jeff says he has taken more risks than anyone. He has defied all limits and it has always been for a good reason. He is fighting for his honor. Fighting for a title. Fighting for his family. He has never had a reason to do it inside the most dangerous structure of them all, Hell in a Cell . . . until now. For the first time ever, he will be locked inside. It will not contain him, it will set him free. In the end, Randy Orton’s obsession will be his own destruction.


Paige is in the back and Miz and Maryse enter. Miz says they were here earlier. Miz says they had to cut date night shorter. Maryse says they want to face Daniel and Brie tonight. Miz is not surprised that Daniel and Brie left. Paige says that Miz has a match tonight. Miz wants to know who it is against and Paige says it is anyone who wants to face him. Miz tells Paige she needs to be a good GM. Paige tells them if they want to leave, they should never come back. We go to commercial.


We are back and R Truth is in the back and he thinks he sees Carmella and he tells her that she cannot duck him any more. Truth taps ‘Carmella’ on the shoulder but it is Maryse. Truth says he is trying to book a match with Carmella but she cannot handle the truth. Miz tells Truth not to touch his wife and Truth asks if Miz is married to Carmella. Miz asks Truth when was the last time they tagged and he says it was seven years. Miz says that Truth has not been relevant since then. Truth says he does not know what Carmella sees in Miz.

In the Arena:

Samoa Joe makes his way to the ring. Joe says hello to WENDY and he says he has walked this building back and forth and up and down. With the lack of a champion in the building, it looks like the Styles family has taken his threats seriously. Joe says that he mentioned last week that he might stop by and visit AJ’s home. Joe says the Styles clan is huddled in the house and Wendy is probably telling her daughter about the horrible things Uncle Joe did. Your hubby is standing next to you with a baseball bat wondering when Joe is going to bust through that door. Joe says he is not a monster.

Joe tells Wendy he is not the man that she thinks he is. Joe says he said what he did to keep the promise he told to her. Joe says he has delivered your absentee husband home on a coveted Tuesday night to be with his family. Joe says his actions actually made AJ care about you. His actions made AJ go home to care for his family. Joe tells AJ’s daughter to enjoy daddy tucking you in and making you safe. There will be a lot more nights like that. At Hell in a Cell, a very very bad man is coming to take your daddy’s championship and then he is going to make him go night night.

AJ Styles is on the TitanTron. AJ says he gets what Joe is doing. Threaten another man’s family, that is when the talking stops. AJ’s music plays and Joe waits for AJ to come through the curtain but Joe looks over his shoulder for a moment.

AJ rushes the ring and Joe decks him as he enters. Joe unloads now. AJ turns it around and fights Joe into a corner. Joe pulls AJ to the floor and tosses him over the steel ring steps. Joe grabs a steel chair but AJ leaps off the steps with a Phenomenal Forearm. AJ grabs the chair and swings against the ring post but Joe moves. Officials run down and hold AJ back. AJ runs into the ring and leaps out to the floor, taking Joe and a few referees down. Paige runs down and tries to calm AJ. Paige and referees back AJ up the ramp as his music hits.


R-Truth is backstage with Tye Dillinger, still looking for Carmella. They find her but Truth doesn’t realize it’s her. Carmella tells Truth to leave her alone. Truth asks if she wants to call a truce for one night only. He wants Carmella to accompany him to the ring tonight to face The Miz because the other Carmella will be at ringside. Truth says the other Carmella (Maryse) called her trash. Carmella disses Maryse and gets fired up. It looks like she will be at ringside with Truth tonight. Truth says he’s trying to teach Tye something – like how to get into the main event of SmackDown.

– We are back with a look at Randy Orton’s side of his Hell in a Cell Match against Jeff Hardy.

Randy says he promised he would make everybody squirm. He promised his actions would not be for the faint of heart. He promised he would erase your heroes and destroy your idols. Jeff Hardy refused to go quietly. He wants to feel Jeff’s last gasp of hope before he stomps it out. He has been the most sadistic for the last 18 years. He is no stranger to the cruel confines of Hell in a Cell. It changes careers. It alters lives. It destroys one’s sense of morality. Randy says what he does to Jeff Hardy will be sickening, perverse, it will make you gag, and will keep you up at night. Randy says it will make him smile. Inside Hell in a Cell, he will erase Jeff Hardy for good.

The Usos vs. SAnitY vs. Rusev Day

We go to the ring for the final mini-tournament Triple Threat. The winners will face The Bar next week to determine Hell In a Cell opponents for SmackDown Tag Team Champions The New Day. The Usos are out first. Out next comes SAnitY – Eric Young, Alexander Wolfe and Killian Dain. Aiden English is out next with a mic, performing the introduction for Rusev Day. Rusev is out next with Lana. We go to commercial.

Young and Jimmy start things off. Young with a kick and forearms to the back. Young with an Irish whip but Jimmy floats over and hits an arm drag into an arm bar. Rusev tags himself in and Young argues with the referee and Jimmy. Young tags himself in when Rusev gets too close. Jimmy with a wrist lock but Young with an arm wringer to escape. English tags in and punches Young. English with an Irish whip and Rusev tags in. English with a hip in the corner and Rusev with a kick for a near fall.

Aiden tags back in and they kick Jimmy in the corner. Jimmy with an uppercut to Aiden followed by a chop. Jimmy with a shoulder in the corner and Jey tags in and hits a forearm into the corner for a near fall. Jey with a slam for a near fall. Dain tags in and he trips Jey and hits a clothesline on the floor. They return to the ring and Young tags in. Dain with a gutbuster and Young with a knee off the turnbuckles to the back of the neck for a near fall. Young with kicks and Dain tags back in. Young with a choke and Dain with a boot to Jey.

Dain with a forearm to the back and fisherman’s suplex for a near fall. Dain with a chin lock as he works on Jey’s neck. Dain sends Jey to the mat and works on the neck. Dain with a splash and a near fall. Dain continues to work on Jey’s neck. Rusev tells Jey to make a tag to anyone. Jey with punches but Dain with a drop kick that sends Jey to the floor. Young tags in and he hits an elbow drop off the apron.

We go to commercial.

We are back and Jimmy and Young tag in. Jimmy with clotheslines and a dragon whip to Young. Jimmy with a running hip strike in the corner followed by an attempted Samoan drop. Rusev tags in and Jimmy is sent into the ropes. Rusev with a kick and running hip strike into the corner. Rusev with a spinning heel kick. Rusev sets for the Machka Kick and he kicks Wolfe off the apron. Young avoids the kick and Jey tags in and hits a splash off the turnbuckles on Young but English breaks up the cover. Dain with Divide to English. Dain takes care of Jimmy but Jey with a super kick. Rusev makes the tag and Jey hits a suicide dive. Rusev looks around and he goes for a suicide dive but Jimmy with a punch. English with a DDT to Jimmy on the apron.

Young with a rollup but English pushes Young’s foot off the ropes. Rusev with a Machka Kick for the three count.

Winners: Rusev and Aiden English

After the match, Sheamus and Cesaro appear arm in arm on the stage.

– The Miz and Maryse are backstage getting ready for the main event.

– Tom leads us to another video for Pediatric Cancer Awareness Month. Back to commercial.

– Back from the break and the announcers hype the return of Mixed Match Challenge.

The Miz vs. R-Truth

We go to the ring for tonight’s main event and out comes The Miz with Maryse. Miz says he cannot believe that after eight years, he still has to tell everyone that he is superior to Daniel Bryan. We take a look back at what we saw earlier when Miz and Maryse attacked Brie and Daniel last week on Smackdown.

Miz says they are so sick of chasing Daniel and Brie around this God-Forsaken city. Miz says they are going to call out Daniel and Brie. Maryse tells Miz that they are afraid of them. Miz says that Daniel tucked his tail and left. This is like all of the times when he called out Daniel and he did nothing. Now he has Brie fighting his battles for him. Miz wants to know who is the coward now?

Miz says it is something to be a selfish pest but to have so little regard for your family that you are going to put your wife at risk, Miz says Daniel disgusts him. Miz says that they will be responsible for what happens at Hell in a Cell, but it will be Daniel’s fault.

Carmella’s music hits and out she comes. R-Truth is out next. Carmella sings “what’s up!” with Truth as they head to the ring. Back to commercial.

The match is joined in progress and Truth with a hip toss. Truth with a spinning leg drop for a near fall. Truth with punches on the turnbuckles. Truth with a split and double leg take down followed by punches. Miz with a knee to the midsection. Miz with a boot to the head for a near fall. Miz with a reverse chin lock. Truth with punches but Miz with Reality Check for a near fall. Miz mocks Carmella by doing a moonwalk. Miz with a boot to the head followed by a knee to the back.

Miz with a rear chin lock. Miz with an Irish whip and he kicks Truth in the corner. Miz with a running drop kick into the corner. Miz with an Awesome Clothesline and then he goes up top for the double sledge and Truth is down. Miz with kicks to the chest and he sets for a round kick but Truth ducks and Truth with a rollup for a near fall. Truth with a boot to Miz as Miz charges into the corner.

Truth with clotheslines and flying twisting forearm. Truth with a split and then he hits a splash into the corner.

Truth with a kick and he misses the axe kick. Miz with a kick and DDT for a near fall. Miz sets for the flying knee but Truth with a leg lariat for a near fall. Truth goes for a belly-to-back suplex but Miz lands on his feet and he clips Truth. Miz goes for the figure four leg lock but Truth with an inside cradle for a near fall. Miz with a round kick to the head. Miz sets for the Skull Crushing Finale but . . .

Daniel Bryan’s music plays and Truth drops down and gets the three count with a rollup.

Winner: R Truth

After the match, Daniel Bryan immediately hits the ring and beats on Miz. Bryan applies the Yes Lock. Brie Bella stalks Maryse on the outside, chasing h er in the ring. Brie drops Maryse. Brie goes to deliver the running knee but Zelina Vega trips her from the outside. Andrade “Cien” Almas pulls Bryan out of the ring and sends him into the steel steps. Vega brings Brie in the ring while Almas brings Bryan in. Miz and Maryse retreat up the ramp. Bryan and Brie counter at the same time, dropping Almas and Vega into double Yes Locks as Miz and Maryse look on. Brie and Bryan won’t let up. Miz runs back down to the ring but stops as Bryan stands up. Bryan’s music hits as the two teams face off. Bryan and Brie lead a “Yes!” chant in the ring. SmackDown goes off the air.
