WWE Smackdown Results - September 25, 2018

We’re live from the Pepsi Center in Denver, Colorado as Tom Phillips welcomes us. He’s joined by Corey Graves and Byron Saxton.

– We go right to the ring and it’s time for another must see episode of MizTV. Carmella and R-Truth are out in the ring instead of The Miz. Truth welcomes us to the first-ever episode of Truth TV and introduces his Mixed Match Challenge partner, Carmella. Truth introduces his first guest and plugs the #1 contenders match at WWE Super Show-Down. Out comes Daniel Bryan to a pop.

Truth does some comedy and asks Bryan about beating The Miz at Super Show-Down and how he’s been dealing with Miz for years, but like only Truth can. Bryan says this is already better than MizTV ever was. They interrupt the interview with Bryan for a 7 second dance break. Dance music hits as Carmella and Truth start dancing. Bryan laughs and says this is infinitely better than MizTV. Truth tells him to stay tuned because he has an animal segment with the people from Denver Zoo coming later but for now he wants to talk about Super Show-Down. Bryan talks about making his comeback and wanting to be WWE Champion, recalling how he only defended the title one time before. Bryan has unfinished business with the WWE Title and with The Miz. Bryan goes on and the music interrupts as The Miz comes out to the stage.

Miz asks Truth what he’s doing out here. A “Truth TV” chant starts up as Truth speaks. Truth reminds us how he beat Miz in the ring a few weeks ago. Truth says if Miz had a title it would be his but he has a talk show, so he just took that. Miz calls Truth an idiot. Truth says he’s an idiot with a talk show. Miz goes on and says Bryan will never beat him. Miz says he beat Bryan at SummerSlam and he will do the same thing at Super Show-Down. Miz says he will do what it takes to win the WWE Title but Bryan is too proud to do what it takes, which is why he always lets people close to him down. Miz says Bryan will have to compromise his moral code to beat him and he won’t do that. Truth interrupts Miz and bans him from Truth TV for life. Miz says this isn’t even Truth’s show and the “Truth TV” chant starts back up. Truth says Miz can have his show back but they have to fight for it. Carmella and Truth stop for another 7 second dance break.

– We see The Miz rush to the back to complain to SmackDown General Manager Paige. She says Miz has to win MizTV back if he wants to, just like Truth said. Paige sends Miz back through the curtain as the dance party is going on past 7 seconds. Miz walks back out towards the ring and he’s not happy.

– Still to come, Rusev demands answers from Aiden English. Also, AJ Styles and Samoa Joe sign their contract for SSD. We go to commercial.

The Miz vs. R-Truth

Back from the break and the match is underway. Daniel Bryan is on commentary. They go at it and Truth gets the upperhand early on. Miz ends up on the floor and has words with Bryan, then Carmella. Truth tries to grab Miz from the ring but it backfires. Miz fights back in but Truth drops him for a 2 count. Carmella hops on the apron and dances for a second.

Truth ends up chasing Miz around the ring and rocking him. Truth launches Miz into the barrier and then slams his face into the apron. Truth brings it back into the ring and mounts Miz in the corner with right hands as fans count along. Miz comes back and levels Truth with a big boot. Miz stares at Bryan before delivering the No Kicks to Truth while he’s on his knees. Miz misses the roundhouse kick and Truth rolls him up for a 2 count.

Truth tries to mount offense but Miz drops him with a DDT for a 2 count. They have a test of strength now with Miz in control. They tangle and Truth backslides Miz for a 2 count. Truth with a big right hand. Miz with a big knee to the gut. We go to commercial with Miz in control.

Back from the break and Truth mounts some offense for the comeback. Truth drops Miz in a big jawbreaker for another close 2 count. Miz dodges the scissors kick but Truth comes back with another big kick for another pin attempt. Miz comes back and lands a cheap thumb to the eyes, then a Skull Crushing Finale. Miz looks over at Bryan and smiles, taunting him with some trash talking. Miz goes back to the corner and mocks Bryan as fans boo and chant “no!” instead of the “yes!” chant. Truth gets up and Miz drops him with Bryan’s running knee. Miz covers for the pin to win.

Winner: The Miz

After the match, Miz retreats to the floor as Bryan enters the ring to stare him down and check on Truth with Carmella. Miz talks trash back at the ring as his music plays.

– Tom shows us video from earlier today of Becky Lynch attacking Charlotte Flair during a backstage photo shoot. Becky beat Flair up and talked trash about how people want to see the champ’s face, not Flair’s face. Becky raised the title while holding Flair down with a boot and forced the photographer to snap some shots. Tom says Flair was evaluated for injuries and was sent home.

Sheamus vs. Big E

We go to the ring and out comes The Bar, Sheamus with Cesaro. Greg Hamilton does the introductions. The Bar poses in the ring as we go to commercial.

Xavier says they have jokes, but sometimes they play too much. Kofi says Woods is 100% correct that they play too much. They respect The Bar. Last week, Cesaro beat him, fair and square. It would be silly for them to come out and not take these guys seriously going into Super Show Down. Big E says that since they have respect for The Bar, they have decided to play the Say Something Nice Challenge.

Xavier says that regardless of the fact that they make fun of Cesaro’s areolas and that he might look like Jason Statham, they like his movies. Big E says that while Sheamus’ mohawk is annoying to look at, the carpet must match the…

Sheamus takes the mic and he says that the New Day has everyone fooled. You want to talk all day but they want to fight. Cesaro says this mockery will come to an end at Super Show Down when they take the titles. The laughs will stop for Big E tonight after Sheamus beats the crap out of him.

We are finally ready to go! Sheamus with a side head lock and he connects with forearms across the chest on the apron. Big E hip tosses Sheamus over the top rope to the floor. Big E sets for a splash on the apron and he connects. Big E is given a pancake “smelling salt” to get a second wind as we go to commercial.

We are back and Big E with an overhead belly-to-belly suplex. Big E with a second one and he goes for a belly-to-belly suplex but Sheamus blocks it and connects with a head butt. Sheamus charges into the corner and is met with a UranagE for a near fall. Big E swivels the hips before going for the Warrior Splash but Sheamus gets his knees up and Sheamus gets a near fall. Sheamus with a power slam for a near fall.

Cesaro gives Sheamus a pep talk before setting for the Brogue Kick. Big E catches Sheamus and hits a power bomb for a near fall. Sheamus goes to the floor when he sees Big E pull down the straps. Sheamus goes to the apron and Big E goes for the spear through the ropes but Sheamus with a knee. Sheamus grabs the ropes on a Big Ending attempt and Sheamus with a Brogue Kick for the three count.

Winner: Sheamus

– Paige is in the back and she says that she is taking precautions to make sure that nothing happens. We see that she is talking to AJ Styles. AJ says he is going out there to sign on the dotted line. If he wants to break anything, it will be Samoa Joe.

– Lana walks in the back and knocks on Rusev’s locker room door. Rusev says that Aiden will pay for what he did. He says he wants to know why Aiden attacked him last week. We go to commercial.

In the Arena:

We are back and Rusev and Lana make their way to the ring, we see what happened last week before we hear from Rusev.

Rusev says that his friend and partner Aiden English betrayed him, and he did it on the greatest day of all . . . Rusev Day. That makes him a traitor. Before he crushes his soul, he wants Aiden the Traitor to explain himself.

Aiden comes out and he says that he knows Rusev is angry. This is not his fault. Aiden says before he met Rusev, you were the Super Athlete. None of these people cared about you. You were floundering and lacked direction. Aiden says he saw potential in you and he joined Rusev’s side. He made Rusev the most beloved superstar in WWE. If you don’t believe him, watch the video.

Aiden asks how amazing were they? They had more than 70,000 people chanting for them. Not just during the match, but the entire night. They were destined to be legends. What happened? Aiden says SHE happened. This whole mess is Lana’s fault. We have a video to prove it.

Aiden says things were better when it was just them, not when it was you, me, and her. Lana says before you, she made Rusev an unstoppable force. She got him a tank for Wrestlemania. You are a glorified cheerleader and you are trying to make a name for yourself with Rusev. Aiden says that you stand by your husband, you support him, you are honest with him. That is why you told him what you were going to say to Rusev about him. If Lana is so honest, will she tell Rusev about that one night in Milwaukee?!

– We take a look back at the last contract signing with AJ Styles and Samoa Joe.

– We see Samoa Joe’s locker room door.

– We see Naomi and Asuka getting ready for their match. Back to commercial.

Backstage:

We are back and Lana says that she doesn’t know what Aiden is talking about. Becky stops by and says Milwaukee is a great town. Becky tells Lana to worry about Milwaukee or she will be taken out like Charlotte. Becky says that Rusev will need to carry her bags to the back when she is done with him. Rusev asks when was the last time they were in Milwaukee…

– Billie Kay and Peyton Royce are in the ring and they are interrupted by Naomi’s music before they can say anything. Billie and Peyton join the announce team for the next match.

– We see Mandy Rose and Sonya Deville mocking Asuka and Naomi and they play with Mandy’s hair. Naomi challenged them to this match.

Asuka and Naomi vs. Mandy Rose and Sonya Deville

Asuka and Mandy start things off and they lock up. Asuka with a wrist lock and turns it into a hammer lock. Asuka blocks an elbow and goes for the Asuka Lock but Mandy tags Sonya in. Mandy misses a knee but Sonya with a spear for a near fall. Sonya kicks Asuka and then sends her into the corner. Mandy tags back in and they kick Asuka. Mandy with forearms in the corner. Mandy chokes Asuka in the ropes and then kicks Sonya. Mandy and Sonya with kicks to Asuka’s chest and back while Asuka is in the ropes. Sonya tags in and applies a body scissors.

Asuka with forearms but Sonya keeps Asuka from making the tag. Asuka blocks a kick and hits a German suplex. Mandy and Naomi tag in and Naomi with a flying clothesline and a head scissors take down. Naomi with a sliding slap to Mandy and then she connects with a knee to the head and hits a leg drop for a near fall. Sonya breaks up the cover but Naomi sends Sonya to the floor.

Mandy with a flying knee and Sonya tags in. Sonya with a sliding knee for a near fall. Mandy is sent to the apron by Asuka and Asuka with a hip attack to send Mandy to the floor. Sonya with a forearm. Naomi with a springboard round kick and Asuka tags in. They hit a double round kick on Sonya for the three count.

Winners: Naomi and Asuka

– We are told that Lana will face Becky Lynch tonight.

– We see Shinsuke Nakamura walk in the back as we go to commercial.

Shinsuke Nakamura vs. Tye Dillinger

Nakamura charges into the corner and Dillinger with chops. Nakamura with an Irish whip and Dillinger with a clothesline out of the corner. Nakamura misses a kick and Dillinger with a chop but Nakamura with a kick to the back of the head. Nakamura puts Dillinger on the turnbuckle and Nakamura with a running knee to the ribs. Nakamura sets for Kinshasa but misses it. Dillinger hits a super kick and goes up top and hits a frog splash for a near fall.

Dillinger climbs the turnbuckles and punches Nakamura. Randy Orton pulls Dillinger off the turnbuckles and the referee calls for the bell.

Winner: Tye Dillinger (by disqualification)

After the match, Orton sends Dillinger into the ring post and then connects with a clothesline on the floor followed by a European uppercut. Orton sends Dillinger into the ring steps and over the announce table. Orton with a backdrop driver onto the announce table. Orton with the Garvin stomp. Orton drops Dillinger on the top rope and then he leaves the ring but he hits an IEDDT to the floor. Nakamura takes his title belt and starts to go up the ramp but he stops and hits Kinshasa on Dillinger and it sends DIllinger’s head into the matrix board on the apron.

– Lana gets ready in the back and Rusev wishes her luck. Lana asks Rusev if he believes her. She says that Aiden is a liar. Rusev says he is a little bit frustrated and Lana walks to the ring for her match. Back to commercial.

– We are back and Randy Orton is walking in the back and he is asked why did he attack Tye Dillinger. Randy says that Tye is not his next victim. He says that the Perfect Ten crap just pisses him off.

Becky Lynch vs. Lana

Becky with a side head lock and take down into a front face lock. Becky with an arm drag take down for a near fall. Becky tells Lana to do something and Lana with a slap and spear followed by punches. Becky with an Irish whip and Lana with a kick and bulldog for a near fall. Becky goes to the floor. Becky sends Lana into the ringside barrier and they return to the ring. Becky goes for a suplex but Lana with an inside cradle for a near fall. Lana with a round kick and she gets a near fall.

Lana with a boot to the back and she goes to the turnbuckles. Becky pulls Lana off the turnbuckles and then she goes for an exploder but Lana blocks it momentarily. Becky with the Exploder and then she applies DisArmHer to force Lana to tap out.

Winner: Becky Lynch

– Aiden English is in the back and he is asked about what happened in Milwaukee. Aiden says he will show the video evidence next week.

– Paige is telling security what she needs them to do during the contract signing as we go to commercial.

In the Arena:

Back from the break and SmackDown General Manager Paige is in the ring for a contract signing. Paige says due to the controversial finish at SummerSlam, the match between Samoa Joe and WWE Champion AJ Styles at Super Show-Down must be No DQ and No Count Out, there must be a winner. She says they have taken precautions for tonight but we all know how these contract signings end. Paige introduces WWE Champion AJ Styles first and out he comes. Samoa Joe is introduced next but his music doesn’t play. Paige introduces him again but there’s no Joe.

Styles says Joe doesn’t have the guts to come out here, look him in the eye and sign on the dotted line. Styles says Joe is more likely to come attack him from behind because that’s how he works. AJ hypes the match at Super Show-Down and says it’s right up Joe’s alley because he doesn’t play by the rules. Joe suddenly films on the big screen, apparently streaming from his phone. Joe says the best part about this job is traveling the world and seeing various places. He’s happy to be at one of those places tonight. Joe shows us a mailbox he’s standing next to and it says Styles. AJ realizes Joe is at his family’s home, pointing this out to Paige. Joe taunts AJ and brings up his family being there, thousands of miles from Denver. Joe wonders if AJ realizes he is helpless right now, how he feels about this. AJ tells Joe to just hold on. Joe wants AJ to get out his phone and call Wendy to tell her… Joe remembers AJ doesn’t bring his phone to the ring. Joe has a gift for AJ’s daughter Annie, a baby doll. AJ begs Joe not to go in his house.

Joe goes on taunting AJ and rubbing it in, saying they both know AJ’s family is home. Joe says AJ will feel these same feelings at Super Show-Down. Joe goes on talking to AJ and says this has always been about consequences, mentioning how AJ stole the title from him. AJ begs Joe not to go in his home. Joe rings the door bell and looks at the camera to say, “Daddy’s home.” SmackDown goes off the air.
