WWE Smackdown Results - August 7, 2018

We are live from the Amway Center in Orlando, Florida, and Randy Orton makes his way to the ring to start the show.

Randy says last week Jeff Hardy called him out. Let’s see how that turned out for him as we see footage from last week’s Smackdown. Randy says the question is do you still believe. Randy says he could have warned those of you who are squeamish to turn away but that was why he did it. Randy says he has vowed to take out every superstar you put on a pedestal. Randy says he will become so violent that you will want to change the channel.

Randy says you won’t change the channel because you people still believe. You believe in superheroes. You believe in hope. You hope that your superhero Jeff Hardy will come out to save the day, but he won’t. Randy says he erased the enigma. Jeff Hardy is lost looking for his identity. Randy says he erased the enigma. Randy says he will erase every superstar you respect. Randy says he does not get the respect he deserves from the fans or the respect from anyone in the back.

Randy says he was the youngest man in that locker room when he started. He was the youngest World Champion. He is a thirteen time World Champion and he has won every title. However, he is not respected.

Randy says you have made your choice and so has he. That means that he will erase every superstar you choose to believe in. Starting with Jeff Hardy, piece by piece by piece. It is not Randy’s fault. It is on each and every one of you. You can call him whatever you want but you need to call him by the three most dangerous letters… R K O.

– Cesaro and Sheamus are in the locker room talking about their match tonight.

Backstage:

Becky Lynch is in the hallway and Charlotte stops by. They speak at the same time. Charlotte says she wasn’t trying to ruin Becky’s moment. Charlotte says Becky knows that she is competitive. Becky says it put her in a tough position. Becky says she wants to be happy for Charlotte but she wanted a singles match against Carmella. The challenge got a lot bigger.. Becky says that to be the best, she has to beat the best. Charlotte asks if they are okay for this tag match and Becky says they aren’t Sasha and Bayley.

– Carmella makes her way to the ring to join the announce team for the next match. We go to commercial.

Becky Lynch and Charlotte Flair vs. Billie Kay and Peyton Royce

Peyton and Billie play some word association before the match and call Orlando the saddest place on Earth. She calls Charlotte overrated, a bad dancer, and someone who lost to Carmella twice. Becky is brought up and Billie cannot think of anything. Peyton says Becky is where she always is… in Charlotte’s shadow. Billie and Peyton say Becky is always a bridesmaid but never a champion.

Billie and Becky start things off and Becky with a wrist lock. Charlotte with a double sledge off the turnbuckles. Charlotte with chops and Becky tags back in. Charlotte and Becky with a double hip toss to Billie and then Peyton. Becky goes for the arm and Peyton pulls Billie to the floor. Charlotte with a pescado onto Billie and Peyton.

Charlotte sends Billie back into the ring. Peyton distracts Charlotte and Billie with a boot to knock Charlotte off the apron. Peyton tags in and gets a near fall. Billie tags back in and they kick Charlotte in the midsection and back. Billie gets a near fall. Billie with a rear chin lock. Charlotte with chops but Billie with punches to Charlotte. Billie gets a near fall. Billie and Peyton choke Charlotte in the corner. Charlotte with elbows to Billie and Peyton but Peyton gets a near fall.

Peyton chokes Charlotte in the ropes. Peyton with a forearm to the back followed by knees to the back. Peyton with elbows to the collarbone and then she applies a reverse chin lock. Billie grabs Charlotte by the hair and drops her against the ropes. Peyton with a spinning heel kick but Becky breaks up the cover. Charlotte with an inside cradle to Billie for a near fall. Billie and Charlotte with boots to the head at the same time and both are down. Becky and Peyton tag in and Becky with clotheslines and a leg lariat. Becky with a back heel kick and an exploder.

Becky with a shoulder tackle from the turnbuckles for a near fall. Becky with the DisArmHer but Billie breaks up the hold. Charlotte makes the tag and she goes up top for a moonsault to Billie and Peyton’s arms. Charlotte applies the figure four leg lock on Peyton and bridges to force her to tap out.

Winners: Becky Lynch and Charlotte Flair

After the match, Carmella gets on the announce table to show her challengers her title belt.

Backstage:

Renee Young is in the back with the New Day. Renee asks them about their match against the Bar. Big E says they were dynamite on commentary but this week they are trying something different. Kofi puts on a wig and takes the mic from Renee to interview Big E and Xavier. Kofi asks how will they spar with The Bar. Woods says they beat them before and they will beat them again. Kofi asks them about the Bludgeon Brothers. Big E says they are no strangers to danger and they will make sure that the Bludgeon Brothers will bow down to the power of positivity.

– We see Miz from earlier tonight and eh says all he does is give. He gives you access to his fairy tale life. Miz says he has decided to give something to Daniel Bryan, the gift of relevancy. It will be Daniel versus him at SummerSlam.

AJ Styles is in the back and he walks into commercial.

– We are back and Charlotte and Becky celebrate their victory and Charlotte is a lot happier than Becky. Becky says things will be different at SummerSlam. Charlotte says they will have to be great against each other.

– We take a look back at last week’s promo by Samoa Joe.

In the Arena:

AJ Styles makes his way to the ring. AJ says he hasn’t forgotten how that sounds as he replies to the chants. AJ says a lot goes on between these ropes. A lot of trash talking and manhoods being tested. When that happens, it gets personal. You made it personal last week when you talked about his family. AJ says he wants to be one of the greatest WWE Superstars for his family. AJ says we all make sacrifices as parents. That is what he does as a father and a real man. AJ says he is away from home more than 200 days a year. He misses little league and birthdays. On August 5th, he celebrated 18 years with his wife. She is like a single parent because of what AJ does. He is there to make sure that they get what he didn’t have.

AJ says when your little one falls down and scrapes their knee calling for their daddy, you want to be there. AJ says that it pisses him off because Joe knows his family and wife. Before this was the house that AJ built, they shared the same cockroach infested apartment complex and stale pizza. You threw it away in a matter of minutes because you mentioned his family. AJ says he won’t let Joe get his hands on this title. AJ says at SummerSlam, you are not walking out the WWE Champion. You will be lucky to walk out at all.

We see Samoa Joe watching in the back and he is laughing.

Backstage:

We see Lana backstage warming up. Rusev appears and says Lana was right last week, he should be more supportive. Rusev says he will be out there in Lana’s corner tonight for the rematch with Zelina Vega because this is a Happy Lana Day. Aiden English walks up and just wants Rusev and Lana to hear him out, he says Rusev can knock him out after that if he wants. He says he did not mean to cost Lana the match last week and they have to believe he had the best intentions from his heart. English says he’s here to say he’s sorry. Rusev says fine, we forgive you. They walk off and English goes to leave with them. Rusev stops English and says they forgive him but maybe it’s better if he stays in the back tonight.

Zelina Vega (with Andrade Almas) vs. Lana (with Rusev)

Zelina Vega and Andrade Almas make their way to the ring as we go to commercial…

Lana runs Vega into the turnbuckles and connects with shoulders. Vega with a forearm and she goes to the floor. Lana with a kick to knock Vega down. They return to the ring and Vega kicks Lana and connects with forearms. Vega gets a near fall. Vega with a reverse chin lock and then she kicks Lana in the back. Lana with a knee to the midsection and then Lana with a suplex. Lana gets a near fall.

Lana with elbow drops and a kick to the back. Lana sends Vega into the turnbuckles as they go around the ring. Lana with a kick to the midsection followed by a bulldog for a near fall. Lana with suplexes to Vega and then Almas gets on the apron and distracts Lana. Vega with a Codebreaker and Rusev clotheslines Almas and sends him into the ringside barrier. Vega kicks Rusev in the back and Almas sends Rusev into the ring post.

Lana with a kick and she goes up top. Aiden comes out and he sends Almas into the apron but it knocks Lana down. Vega with a running double knee strike for the three count.

Winner: Zelina Vega

After the match, Aiden is in shock over what happened while Rusev checks on his wife in the ring. Aiden walks away while Rusev has an evil look on his face.

Backstage:

Renee Young is in the interview area with United States Champion Shinsuke Nakamura. Renee asks Nakamura about his match against Jeff Hardy at SummerSlam. Nakamura says that Renee is misguided because Jeff Hardy was erased. Nakamura says he understands metaphors.

R Truth and Tye Dillinger show up in the interview area and Truth challenges Nakamura for a title match at SummerSlam. Nakamura asks how will he get the match. Truth says he will pin Carmella. Nakamura says something into Japanese and Truth is insulted. Truth says his match with Carmella is off and he wants a match with Nakamura tonight. We go to commercial.

In the Arena:

Byron Saxton is in the ring and he brings out the man who will face Daniel Bryan at SummerSlam, the Miz.

Miz appears on the TitanTron and Byron asks why isn’t Miz here tonight. Is it because he is afraid of Daniel Bryan? Miz says Byron will never be more than a second rate commentator. Byron brings up the renewal of Total Bellas and he asks if Miz and Mrs can have similar success. Miz mentions that the first two episodes did better than any episode of Total Bellas. Miz talks about how successful Miz and Mrs is and he says that he is a star.

Byron asks Miz if he has anything to say about his match at SummerSlam. Miz says not to miss the third episode of Miz and Mrs after Smackdown. Miz says that we see him do some CPR and Daniel Bryan should watch to resuscitate his career.

Miz is asked about the match at SummerSlam and what if he cannot back up his talk over the last eight years. Miz asks how many times has Daniel Bryan come to him. Miz says that Daniel Bryan needs a match against him because he should be the champion. Miz says he has been carrying Daniel Bryan since day one. He says he is sick of hearing Daniel call him soft while Daniel has been at home the last two years. Miz says he is not hiding from Daniel Bryan or anyone. He will expose Daniel Bryan at SummerSlam and prove that Daniel is beneath him. Miz suggests getting Daniel out to talk about the match.

Daniel Bryan appears and he attacks Miz and Daniel fights off security. Miz hits Daniel in the head with a vase. Miz is escorted out while Daniel struggles to get back to his feet. The guards hurry Miz out of the room as Bryan recovers, slowly getting to his feet.

– We go to the announcers for hype on Bryan vs. Miz and SummerSlam. Still to come tonight, The Bar vs. The New Day to crown new #1 contenders.

Shinsuke Nakamura vs. R-Truth

We go to the ring and out comes WWE United States Champion Shinsuke Nakamura for a non-title match. Back to commercial.

Shinsuke Nakamura vs. R Truth in a Non Title Match

Nakamura with a kick and knees in the corner. Nakamura chokes Truth in the corner. Nakamura tells Truth to COME ON. Truth with a rollup and then Truth does some dancing and mocks Nakamura. Truth with a rana and a leg lariat followed by a split. Truth with a Stinger Splash and hip lock take down. Truth misses a scissors kick and Nakamura misses an enzuigiri but he does not miss a second one. Nakamura floats over and applies the triangle. Truth tries to get to the ropes and he succeeds. Nakamura releases the hold.

Nakamura with a kick and knees to the head. Nakamura kicks Truth in the head. Nakamura with a front face lock and then hits a reverse exploder. Nakamura with Kinshasa for the three count.

Winner: Shinsuke Nakamura

– We are in the back and the tag title belts are shown and Luke Harper says two teams have advanced. Rowan says the torture is not over. There is one last test tonight and then Harper says they will be excited to see who survives. Mentally and physically this is going to be fun.

– We see Harper and Rowan’s opponents getting ready in the gorilla position.

The Bludgeon Brothers vs. 3SK in a Non Title Match

Rowan slams Pavel Koslov over the top rope to the floor and Rowan with a running cross body to Julio Rivera and Akila Lee. Harper and Rowan work them over on the floor and then Koslov is pulled back into the ring for the the Doomsday Device and the three count.

Winners: The Bludgeon Brothers

– The announcers run through the card for SummerSlam.

The Bar vs. The New Day in the Finals of the Number One Contender Tournament for the Smackdown Tag Team Titles

Sheamus and Cesaro make their way to the ring as we go to commercial.

Big E and Cesaro start things off and Cesaro with a waist lock and Big E with a standing switch. Big E with a back drop to Cesaro and he gyrates. Cesaro with a kick and punch and then he puts Big E in a side head lock. Big E with a back elbow and Kofi tags in and kicks Cesaro and gets a near fall. Kofi with a wrist lock and Cesaro with an Irish whip and monkey flip but Kofi lands on his feet. Kofi with a drop kick for a near fall. Cesaro punches Kofi and tags Sheamus back in.

Sheamus with a European uppercut and Kofi lands on his feet on a belly-to-back suplex attempt. Kofi goes for a monkey flip but Sheamus blocks it. Sheamus puts Kofi on the turnbuckles and connects with a forearm to send Kofi to the floor. Xavier checks on Kofi but Sheamus picks up Kofi and connects with a European uppercut. Sheamus brings Kofi back into the ring and Cesaro tags in. Cesaro with a reverse chin lock. Kofi with elbows and then he goes for a sunset flip but Cesaro stays on his feet and he tags Sheamus in. Sheamus and Cesaro with a double clothelsine for a near fall.

We go to commercial.

We are back and Cesaro stands over Kofi. Kofi tries for punches but Cesaro stops him and sends Kofi into the corner. Cesaro runs into boots and Kofi punches Cesaro. Kofi back drops Cesaro over the top rope to the floor but Cesaro stops Kofi from making the tag and tags in Sheamus. Sheamus misses a shoulder and hits the ring post. Big E tags in and hits two overhead belly-to-belly suplexes and follows with a belly-to-belly suplex. Big E sends Cesaro to the floor when he tries to interfere. Sheamus with a knee but Big E gets a near fall out of the corner.

Big E tags Kofi in and they set for the Midnight Hour but Sheamus escapes. Sheamus and Big E collide in the ring. Cesaro tags in and Kofi with SOS for a near fall. Cesaro with a knee to the midsection. Kofi trips Cesaro and Kofi punches Cesaro. Big E tags in and tries for the splash on the apron but Cesaro moves. Kofi comes off the apron but Sheamus catches him and hits a Finlay slam on the floor. Cesaro sends Big E back in and Sheamus tags in. They hit a double gourdbuster for a near fall.

Sheamus with a knee to the midsection and then he kicks Big E in the corner. Cesaro tags in and they make a wish with Big E. Sheamus tags in and they do it a second time. Cesaro tags back in and they go for the hat trick. Cesaro gets a near fall.

We go to commercial.

We are back and Sheamus with a single leg Boston crab on Big E. Sheamus puts Big E on the turnbuckles and Sheamus sets for a superplex. Big E blocks it and Cesaro tags in. Cesaro with a boot to the head and Sheamus tags in. Cesaro goes for a superplex and Sheamus with a knee from the turnbuckles but Big E kicks out. Sheamus kicks Big E in the back and tries for the Cloverleaf. Sheamus gets a near fall as he tries to get Big E over. Big E kicks Sheamus to the floor. Kofi gets back on the apron and Cesaro pulls Sheamus into the ring. Kofi tags in and he hits clotheslines on Cesaro and follows with the Boom Drop. Kofi sets for Trouble in Paradise but Cesaro is pulled to the floor. Kofi with a plancha trust fall onto Cesaro and Sheamus. Kofi with a double stomp for a near fall.

Kofi sends Sheamus to the floor. Kofi lands on his feet on a belly-to-back suplex attempt. Sheamus tags in and they hit a double back breaker and Sheamus gets a near fall. Sheamus sets for the Brogue Kick and Kofi avoids it. Kofi runs into an elbow and Cesaro tags in. Kofi with a forearm to Cesaro followed by a drop kick to Sheamus. Big E tags in and they set for Midnight Hour but Cesaro knocks Kofi off the turnbuckles. Sheamus and Cesaro hit a spike White Noise for a near fall. Sheamus sends Kofi into the ringside barrier.

Cesaro with a European uppercut and Big E with punches. Cesaro with the Giant Swing and Sharpshooter. Big E tries to get to the ropes but Cesaro pulls Big E into the center of the ring. Sheamus pulls Kofi away from the ring and Kofi with a tornado DDT off the ringside barrier. Big E tries to crawl across the ring and he goes to his corner but Kofi is not there. Cesaro with a crossface in the center of the ring.

BIg E picks up Cesaro and Kofi tags in. Kofi goes up top and they hit Midnight Hour for the three count.

Winners: Kofi Kingston and Big E

After the match, Woods hits the ring and The New Day celebrates as fans pop. The New Day vs. The Bludgeon Brothers is now official for SummerSlam. We go to replays. The celebration continues as we see the SmackDown Tag Team Champions watching from the crowd near the concourse. SmackDown goes off the air with the new #1 contenders celebrating in the ring.
