WWE Smackdown Results - August 21, 2018

We are live from the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York, and The Miz & Maryse make their way to the ring to start the show.

We see photos of Miz using brass knuckles to help him beat Daniel Bryan on Sunday at SummerSlam.

Miz says he was able to close his eyes and really feel that. He really felt that in a way that he never felt it before. Two nights ago at SummerSlam, something happened. Miz says he has a family to think of so he will keep this short. Maryse tries to give Miz the strength to go on. Miz says it is with a heavy heart and the utmost sadness… Miz has to hug Maryse before he can continue. Miz says with a heavy heart and the utmost sadness that he officially announces his retirement… of ever facing Daniel Bryan again.

Miz says you can Yes Yes Yes all you want, but the eight year saga of Miz and Daniel Bryan has come to a satisfying conclusion. Miz says he did what he said he would do. Miz reminds us that he beat Daniel Bryan in front of a sold out crowd. Miz says Daniel Bryan gave him everything he had. Miz says Daniel punched him 100 times, but 100 Daniel Bryan punches does not equal one Miz punch. Miz says he has the hardest punch in the WWE and the hardest punch in this entire arena.

Miz says he did what Daniel Bryan what Daniel said he would do to him. MIz punched Daniel Bryan in the face and he was able to pin Daniel. He did it in front of his wife and child. That was Sunday and now it is time to start his new life. He will watch the fifth episode of Miz and Mrs, right after Smackdown on the USA Network.

Daniel Bryan’s music plays.and he makes his way to the stage.

Daniel calls Miz a coward while Miz tries to ask if Daniel is going to congratulate him. Miz tells Daniel it will never say coward in the record books, it will say that the Miz defeated Daniel Bryan and that the Miz is superior to Daniel Bryan in every way. You will have to live with the knowledge that you are not better than him and that you cannot beat him. You will never get to beat him.

Daniel tells Miz to shut up. You can mock his retirement and you can try to say that you did not cheat to win, but it is part of the facade. It is about the lights and the makeup you are wearing. Daniel says he would come out of retirement and punch Miz in the face. Daniel got to do that and he will now prove that you are a make up Hollywood star cosplaying as a wrestler.

Maryse tells Daniel to go home and retire again. She suggests that Daniel change his name to Daniel Bella. Brie Bella makes her way to the ring and she punches Miz because Maryse already left the ring. Daniel clotheslines Miz over the top rope.

Daniel asks if you think his wife has a sweet punch. Daniel says that he talked to Paige and at Hell in a Cell they will have a match, but it will not just be the two of them. It will be the two of you versus the two of them.

– Jeff Hardy snarls as we go to commercial.

Backstage:

We are back and MIz is looking for Paige. Miz wants to know why she is doing nothing for the anchors of this show. Miz says he does not understand what Paige is doing. Miz says she is a worse General Manager than Daniel Bryan. Paige tells Miz that he got punched in the face by Brie Bella and the match is still on for Hell in a Cell. She says it will be AWESOME!

Jeff Hardy vs. Randy Orton

We go to the ring and out first comes Jeff Hardy. Randy Orton is out next as we see recent events leading to this match.

They lock up and Orton with punches in the corner. Hardy with punches of his own, followed by kicks. Orton with an Irish whip but Hardy with an elbow. Hardy goes to the turnbuckles and Orton with a double sledge to the back to send Hardy into the ring post and Hardy falls to the floor. Orton slams Hardy’s head into the ring steps. Orton sends Hardy back into the ring and then sends him back to the floor. Orton with a back drop driver onto the announce table. Orton with a second back drop throw onto the announce table.

Orton gets Hardy up for a third back drop driver onto the announce table. Orton sends Hardy back into the ring and he gets a near fall. Orton stomps on Hardy’s arm and then he methodically does the Garvin Stomp. Orton gets a near fall and then he applies a reverse chin lock. Orton with an Irish whip and he runs into a punch from Hardy. Hardy gets his feet up and then he hits Whisper in the Wind. Hardy with a reverse atomic drop followed by a leg drop and drop kick.

Hardy with a Twist of Fate and then he goes up top and removes his shirt. Hardy is crotched by Orton. Orton plays with the hole in Hardy’s ear lobe. Hardy with a double leg take down and he stomps on the groin so the referee calls for the bell.

Winner: Randy Orton (by disqualification)

After the match, Hardy attacks Orton and hits a splash off the apron. Hardy sends Orton over the announce table. Orton with punches and a European uppercut. Hardy with a forearm to Orton and he sends Randy into the ring post and over the ringside barrier into teh crowd. Hardy sends Orton into a guardrail. Hardy rearranges a table in the tech area and Hardy punches Orton and hits him with a steel chair. Orton is put on the table and Hardy with punches to Orton. Hardy hits Orton with a camcorder and then he sees a case near the table. Hardy climbs and he hits a Swanton onto Orton through the tables.

We go to commercial.

Backstage:

We are back and Renee Young is with Sheamus and Cesaro. Renee says they asked for time to talk about the tag title match. Cesaro says they want to challenge the winners and they say they are not auditioning for the panel. Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson say they are going to try out for the panel and Karl shows his abs. Luke says they will be the next challengers for the tag titles. Karl says if they have an issue, they can settle it in the ring. Sheamus says they will kick their heads in next week.

Naomi vs. Peyton Royce

We go to the ring and out comes Naomi. Out next are The IIconics – Peyton Royce with Billie Kay.

Billie Kay wants to play a guessing game with Peyton. Billie wants Peyton to name something overrated and annoying with flashing lights. Peyton says Brooklyn. Billie says that was the answer to What’s a dumpster fire. Billie asks for another answer from Peyton. Peyton says Billie is talking about Naomi. Peyton says that Naomi is not Iconic. Back to commercial.

The match is joined in progress and Naomi escapes a head scissors. After missing kicks, Naomi finally connects. Naomi with a split leg drop for a near fall. Peyton goes to the floor and Naomi with a baseball slide to the back. Naomi sends Peyton back into the ring and Billie distracts Naomi and Peyton hits Naomi from behind and kicks Naomi off the apron. Naomi gets back into the ring and Peyton with forearms to the back followed by a kick and she gets a near fall.

Peyton sends Naomi into the turnbuckles. Peyton chokes Naomi in the corner and then connects with a knee to the back and she applies a rear chin lock. Naomi with an arm drag but Peyton misses a spin kick in the corner. Naomi with a kick to the hamstring and she focuses on the leg before hitting a drop kick. Naomi with a clothesline and a springboard round kick for a near fall.

Naomi is sent to the apron and Naomi with a round kick. Naomi kicks Billie on the floor and then sends Billie into the ring post. Naomi is sent into the ring post and then Peyton hits a Fisherman’s suplex for the three count.

Winner: Peyton Royce

Backstage:

We see Big E getting his ribs taped up. Big E is asked about his ribs and Big E says he likes them smoked with collard greens on the side. Big E says his ribs have been better. Kofi says they have history in Brooklyn. This is where they started their title reign. Woods says this is where Franceska was born.

– We have a video package for the Smackdown Women’s Championship Match from SummerSlam when Becky got fed up with the fact that she did not win the title and attacked the new champion after the match.

– We see Becky Lynch’s door as we go to commercial.

In the Arena:

Becky Lynch makes her way to the ring.

Becky says she deserves to be standing here as the champion, but since it was stolen from her, Charlotte got what she deserved. Becky says that SummerSlam was supposed to be about one woman, her. It was about her time. She says she fought her way for months to earn a singles match against Carmella. Becky says she got over the fact that Charlotte got added to the match. Becky says it was her opportunity to silence the people who said she was just Charlotte’s friend. She wanted the chance to hold the title over her head.

You act like you are with her, but were you the whole time? There was no hashtag ‘Give Becky a Chance’. When Charlotte weaseled her way into the match, she got some tweets, but there was no boycott. When Charlotte stole the title from her, you cheered the new champion. Whenever anyone asks who the greatest of all time is, Becky Lynch is not the first name out of your mouths. Becky says she has been made an afterthought. After a few nights, that is not going to change.

You are a generation of all talk and no actions. Becky says she had enough of the opinions and tried to take things into her own hands. The referee making the three count waked her up from a trance. She knew that her so called best friend had been holding her back. At that moment, she knew that Charlotte stole her spotlight for the last time. She knew she would raise Charlotte’s hand and rip her head off. Becky says it was her time to be champion, but not because any of you think she deserves it. It is because she says she deserves it. There is no one on this roster or anyone in this arena or watching at home can tell her any different.

The music interrupts and out comes new SmackDown Women’s Champion Charlotte Flair to the stage. Flair takes off the title and holds it up, talking trash to Becky. Flair runs to the ring and they start brawling. Flair takes the fight to the floor as referees try and break it up now. They bring it back in the ring and some fans chant for Becky as she boots Flair. Paige comes to the stage and brings out the rest of the women’s division. Superstars hit the ring to hold them back as a “let them fight” chant breaks out. They keep breaking free and fighting. Fans chant for Becky now. Flair tackles Becky out of the ring and then jumps off the apron at her. We go to commercial as the two are held back.

Andrade Almas and Zelina Vega vs. Rusev and Lana

We are back and Zelina Vega wants to know why Rusev and Lana want to face them again. Almas says Rusev and Lana always lose on Rusev Day. Vega says it is about Almas.

Almas and Rusev start things off and Almas with chops and Rusev with a clothesline and elbow drops. Almas with a jaw breaker and kicks and knees in the corner. Rusev with an Irish whip but Almas with an uppercut. Almas goes for the reverse tornado DDT from the turnbuckles but Rusev avoids it. Almas with a triangle in the ropes. Rusev with a kick as Almas comes off the ropes. Lana tags in and she hits a clothesline off Almas’ back.

Lana with shoulders in the corner. Vega with a chop and Irish whip. Lana with a kick to the head and a bulldog for a near fall. Vega with a shot to the back of the leg and Lana falls onto the apron. Vega with a kick to the back. They return to the ring and Vega gets a near fall. Vega with a reverse chin lock. Vega gets on Lana’s back and Lana backs Vega into the turnbuckles to get out of the hold. Vega sends Lana into the turnbuckles and kicks Lana. Vega chokes Lana in the ropes and then she sends Lana face first into the mat and gets a near fall. Vega with an Octopus and she goes for a sunset flip but Lana drops down and gets a near fall.

Vega sends Lana to the mat again. Vega runs into a kick and Lana slaps Almas on the apron. Lana crawls to try to make the tag but Vega grabs the leg. Vega pulls Lana to the corner but Lana is able to make the tag. Rusev with a clothesline and hip strike into the corner. Rusev with a spinning heel kick and then he misses a Machka Kick. Almas with a back fist followed by the running double knee strike but he can only get a near fall.

Rusev escapes the hammerlock DDT and Rusev is clotheslined over the top rope to the floor. Lana with a spear and Aiden English keeps Almas from using a chair. Rusev with a Machka Kick and then he applies the Accolade to force Almas to tap out.

Winners: Rusev and Lana

After the match, Aiden tells Rusev and Lana he always has their backs.

– We go to Shinsuke Nakamura and he says now that he has disposed of the clown Jeff Hardy and retained his championship, he deserves to be treated like a hero. He welcomes everyone to the United States of Nakamerica.

– We see AJ Styles watching himself in a mirror as we go to commercial.

– We are back and we take a look back at what happened during the WWE Championship Match at SummerSlam.

In the Arena:

Renee Young is on the Okerlund Stage and she brings out the WWE Champion AJ Styles. Renee asks AJ what happened at SummerSlam. AJ tries to find the right words to explain himself. AJ says SummerSlam didn’t end the way he wanted it to, but he does not regret what he did to Samoa Joe. AJ says he lost the match because of his actions, but Samoa Joe crossed a line that a real man does not cross. AJ says he broke a promise but he wants to make a promise to the WWE Universe. The next time Samoa Joe mentions his family, he will rip Joe’s heart out and…

Samoa Joe attacks AJ from behind and applies the Kokina Clutch. Joe calls for Wendy in “Shining style” and he says it seems like they are making a lot of promises to tuck the children in, but daddy has already gone night night.

– We see what happened earlier with The Miz, Maryse, Daniel Bryan and Brie Bella. Tom hypes the mixed tag team match at Hell In a Cell.

– Still to come, a No DQ match for the SmackDown Tag Team Titles. Back to commercial.

Backstage:

We are back and Paige is talking to some officials and Carmella enters. Paige says Carmella looks different and she says Carmella lost ten pounds… of gold. Carmella tells Paige not to title shame her. Carmella demands her rematch and it better be a singles match.

R Truth enters and he tells Carmella that she has been ducking her for too long and he wants his title match so he has to pin Carmella. Paige tells Truth that he does not have to do that and Truth says Carmella got lucky.

Paige gives Carmella her rematch and Carmella moonwalks off camera into Truth and Paige tells Truth to put her down.

No DQ Match for the SmackDown Tag Team Titles: The New Day vs. The Bludgeon Brothers

We go to the ring for tonight’s main event and out comes The New Day – Big E, Xavier Woods and Kofi Kingston. SmackDown Tag Team Champions The Bludgeon Brothers are out next, Rowan and Harper. Woods and Kofi will be representing The New Day tonight.

The bell rings and the two teams go at it. Rowan and Harper send their opponents out to the floor and follow, taking control. Harper goes to suplex Kofi on the announce table but he counters. Harper gets sent over the announce table. Kofi and Woods pose on top. Rowan comes over and sends Woods into the barrier from the table. Rowan slams Kofi on the floor. Kofi gets laid out on the floor and a referee checks on him. Harper and Rowan return to the ring as we go to commercial.

We are back and Rowan with forearms to Kofi in the ring while Harper rakes Woods’ face on the floor. Rowan with a head butt to Kofi. Woods with a rolling elbow to Harper and then he sends Harper into the announce table with a drop toe hold. Kofi with a pendulum kick to Rowan and Rowan goes over the top rope to the floor. Kofi with a kick to take care of Rowan. Kofi and Xavier get a ladder from under the ring and bring it into the ring. Rowan pulls Kofi and Woods off the apron and Harper with a suicide dive onto Woods and Kofi.

Harper and Rowan bring out some chairs and some drinks but they only want to use the chairs because they put the beverages under the ring. Kofi is sent into the announce table while Woods is sent into the ring steps. Harper chokes Kofi and then Rowan with a front face lock and he hangs Kofi over the apron. Harper with a forearm to the chest. Rowan with a boot to the head. Rowan with a splash against the ringside barrier to Kofi and Harper with a boot before they return to the ring and Harper gets a near fall.

Woods with an enzuigiri to Rowan but Rowan with a running shoulder tackle to Woods. Harper has a chair but Kofi kicks it away. Kofi with a tornado DDT onto the chair but Rowan pulls Kofi out of the ring. Rowan kicks Kofi and then Woods goes for a pescado but lands on his feet when Rowan moves. Rowan with a cross body to Woods on the floor. Harper removes the padding from the top of the matrix board on the apron and they drive Woods into the apron with a gourdbuster. Rowan and Harper put the ladder across two chairs. Harper and Rowan set for the T Gimmick onto the chair but Kofi comes off the turnbuckles. They give the T Gimmick to Kofi onto the ladder but Kofi kicks out at two.

Rowan goes under the ring and he gets a table. Harper sets up the table in the ring. Rowan with head butts to Kofi against the ring post. Harper picks up his Bludgeoning Hammer and gives it to Rowan. Harper slaps Rowan a few times to get him motivated but it might have been too much because Rowan misses and goes through the ringside barrier. Harper with a super kick to Woods. Harper sets for a power bomb through the table but Kofi hits Harper with the hammer and Kofi with Trouble in Paradise.

Kofi puts Harper on the table and Woods goes up top and hits an elbow drop through the table for the three count.

Winners: Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods (New Champions)

After the match, Big E hits the ring to celebrate with Woods and Kofi as the music hits and fans sing along. We go to replays. The New Day enters the crowd to continue the celebration as the post-SummerSlam edition of SmackDown goes off the air.
