– Tonight’s Extreme Rules main event featured Seth Rollins challenging Dolph Ziggler for the Intercontinental Championship, which marks the second time ever that the title by itself has main evented a WWE pay-per-view.
The IC title has been defended in the main event in multi-title matches before, but tonight’s show marked the second time the title has been in the main event by itself. The only other time the Intercontinental Championship main evented a show was the Bret Hart versus Davey Boy Smith match at Summerslam 1992.
– WWE posted the following update on Kane’s condition following Extreme Rules:
At WWE Extreme Rules, Kane suffered an injury at the hands of The Bludgeon Brothers. Despite returning to action to help his Team Hell No tag team partner Daniel Bryan, X-rays taken on The Devil’s Favorite Demon later revealed that he has suffered a broken ankle.
PWInsider reported Kane is dealing with a left foot injury, and the pre-match attack was a way to write the injury into the stroryline.
