WWE 205 Live Results - July 31, 2018

We take a look back at last week’s Number One Contender Match that saw Drew Gulak become the newest number one contender for the Cruiserweight Title.

We are told that the contract has been signed for the Cruiserweight Title Match at SummerSlam and we will see footage later tonight.

Kalisto vs. Tony Nese

They lock up and Nese sends Kalisto to the mat.  They lock up again and Nese sends Kalisto to the mat again.  They lock up again and Nese backs Kalisto into the turnbuckles.  Kalisto with kicks and then he flips over Nese but Nese with a back elbow.

We see Buddy Murphy in the back as he looks near the monitor.

Nese sends Kalisto into the apron and then back into the ring.   Nese with a hard Irish whip.  Nese with a chop followed by a hard Irish whip.  Kalisto with an elbow and kick to Nese.  Kalisto goes to the turnbuckles and Nese catches Kalisto and hits a back breaker and puts Kalisto in the tree of woe.  Nese with kicks.  Nese with a waist lock.  Kalisto with elbows to escape followed by a jawbreaker.  Nese with a back heel kick and knee lift.  Nese with a kick to the chest and a leg sweep for a near fall.  Nese with punches to Kalisto.  Nese with a waist lock. 

Nese pulls Kalisto to the mat by the mask.  Kalisto with a kick to the head and then he kicks Nese again.  Kalisto with a near fall followed by a Listo Kick.  Nese blocks the spike rana and counters with a gutbuster for a near fall.  Nese goes for a suplex but Kalisto lands on his feet and he gets a near fall with a rollup.  Nese trips Kalisto as he goes to the floor.  Nese misses a double jump moonsault and Nese appears to have hurt his knee.  Kalisto with the spike rana for a near fall.

Nese counters Salida del Sol into a rollup and one arm buckle bomb.  Nese gets a near fall.  Kalisto hits Salida del Sol for the three count.

Winner:  Kalisto

After the match, Buddy Murphy blocks Kalisto’s exit up the ramp.  Murphy pushes Kalisto down and then he presses Kalisto over his head.  Lince Dorado clips Buddy to help Kalisto.  Kalisto and Dorado with a double super kick on Murphy.

We take a look at the contract signing for the Cruiserweight Title.

Drake mentions that he is proud that they will represent 205 Live at SummerSlam.

Drew signs the contract first.  Drew says he has been thinking about Cedric’s reign as champion. 

Cedric takes the contract.

Drew says he wants to congratulate Cedric on his undefeated 2018.  He says that Cedric had a great moment at Wrestlemania, but what has he done since.  Cedric says he has defended the title against everyone.  Drew asks where was Cedric when the title was not on the line.  He was in the back while Drew was building this brand.  Drew says Cedric let everyone tire themselves out while you watched from the back.  Drew calls Cedric the Brock Lesnar of 205 Live.

Cedric says that Drew has made sure that Brian Kendrick is in for a world of hurt.

We go to commercial.

We are back and Lio Rush comes out and he says that some people are angry that he did not give Akira Tozawa a rematch.  Lio says he is a hot commodity.  He says he was very tempted at giving the former champion a rematch.  It is just not fair because he already went out and found an opponent more qualified than the 23 year old piece of gold.  Lio says you are what people call the real deal.  Lio says he has heard a lot about his opponent.  Lio says that he believes that he can put up a better fight than Akira Tozawa.

Lio Rush vs. Ricky Martinez

Rush misses a charge at Martinez and Martinez sends Rush into the turnbuckles.  Rush with a thrust kick and round kick that sends Martinez to the floor.  Rush with a suicide dive.  Rush sends Martinez back into the ring and hits a spinning round kick.  Rush goes up top and hits the frog splash for the three count.

Winner:  Lio Rush

After the match, Akira Tozawa’s music plays and he makes his way to the ring.  Tozawa is ready for a fight and Rush leaves the ring. 

Drew Gulak is in the locker room with Brian Kendrick to discuss Brian’s match against Cedric Alexander.

We see Cedric Alexander getting ready in the back.

We go to commercial.

Brian Kendrick (with Drew Gulak) vs. Cedric Alexander in a Non Title Match

They lock up and Kendrick with a wrist lock.  Alexander with a single leg take down.  Alexander with a side head lock and take down.  Kendrick with a head scissors and Alexander escapes.  Alexander goes for the leg but Kendrick avoids him.  They have a Greco Roman Knuckle Lock and Alexander with the advantage.  Kendrick with a side head lock.  Alexander with an arm drag into an arm bar.  Kendrick pushes Alexander and Alexander pushes back.

Kendrick with a kick but Alexander with a forearm and chop.  Alexander with a chop in the corner.  Alexander with more chops as they go around the ring.  Kendrick with a knee to the midsection and Alexander with a handstand head scissors and drop kick for a near fall. 

Drew Gulak makes his way to the ring and Alexander turns his focus to his SummerSlam opponent.  Kendrick hides under the ring when Alexander goes for a dive.  Kendrick pulls Alexander into the frame of the ring and then into the ring steps.  Kendrick gets a near fall.  Kendrick with a kick to the chest and then to the arm.  Kendrick chokes Alexander in the ropes.  Kendrick with a forearm and butterfly suplex for a near fall.  Kendrick with an arm bar while Drew joins on commentary.

Alexander escapes but Kendrick with a drop kick for a near fall.  Alexander with elbows and forearms.  Kendrick sends Alexander into the turnbuckles.  Kendrick runs into a boot in the corner.  Alexander is sent to the apron and he goes for a springboard move but Kendrick sends Alexander to the mat.  Alexander sends Kendrick to the floor when Kendrick goes for Sliced Bread #2.  Alexander with a plancha.

Alexander with a back kick and enzuigiri from the apron.  Alexander with a springboard clothesline for a near fall.  Kendrick avoids the Lumbar Check and Alexander goes for a back elbow but Kendrick with a back slide for a near fall.  Alexander with a back elbow and Neuralizer.  Kendrick rolls to the apron.  Kendrick pulls Alexander over the top rope to the floor.  Alexander with a kick to the chest and he goes for the slingshot flatliner but Kendrick applies the Captain’s Hook.  Alexander crawls to the ropes and he gets there to force the break.

Kendrick goes for another Captain’s Hook but Alexander with a Michinoku Driver for a near fall.  Alexander with a running European uppercut and then another running European uppercut.  Kendrick with a boot and Kendrick with a rollup to counter a Michinoku Driver.  Kendrick with a super kick but Alexander counters Sliced Bread #2 into a Lumbar Check and the three count.

Winner:  Cedric Alexander

After the match, Cedric’s opponent at SummerSlam makes his way to the apron.  Jack Gallagher comes from behind and hits Alexander with a head butt.  Drew asks Cedric what is the matter and points out that Cedric took his eye off the prize. 

Drake Maverick runs down with a bunch of referees and gets them to back up. Maverick tells them he’s out of the match if they touch Alexander and the group backs off.

We go to credits.
