Shinsuke Nakamura Returning NJPW When Contract With WWE Expires?

Shinsuke Nakamura is one of the leading Superstars over on SmackDown Live. With his long feud with WWE Champion AJ Styles seemingly over, fans are beginning to question what the future is for the “King of Strong Style” given so many recent losses.

Nakamura debuted way back in 2002. In his professional career, he has won numerous Championships around the world. Many hold the belief that his time in New Japan Pro Wrestling has not been surpassed, where Nakamura was a 5-time IWGP Intercontinental Champion and a 3-time IWGP Heavyweight Champion among many other accolades.

In WWE, Nakamura is a 2-time NXT Champion, a 2-time NXT award recipient and the winner of the 2018 Royal Rumble. Excluding the Rumble victory, Nakamura hasn’t had much success on the main roster.

This has led fans to speculate Nakamura might be returning to the increasingly prominent Japanese promotion. One fan asked Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter if the plan for Nakamura is to return to his former promotion. Meltzer would respond with an interesting answer.

In his response, Meltzer claimed he doesn’t expect a return to NJPW for Nakamura, but it still remains a possibility.

In addition, it has been said many times in the past that Nakamura made the decision to go to WWE due to his age and the physical nature of NJPW taking a huge toll on his body. This would further allude to the Superstar remaining with the company.

At this time, it doesn’t appear as if Nakamura is going anywhere. There are rumors circulating online that Nakamura may feud with Jeff Hardy over the WWE United States Championship moving forward, which will likely result in a Championship run for the former NXT Champion.

The future for Nakamura in WWE is up for debate, though based on his character development on SmackDown Live since WrestleMania 34, it is likely going to be more than successful.
