– WWE has confirmed that legendary manager Jimmy Hart will be the man to induct Hillbilly Jim into the Hall of Fame at the 2018 Induction Ceremony next week in New Orleans.
Hillbilly & Hart were often foes in the ring with Jim going up against several superstars managed by Hart, although WWE notes that the two men have become quite close since their days of being active members of the roster. Below is WWE’s full announcement:
“Hillbilly Jim often found himself standing across the ring from nefarious Superstars managed by Jimmy Hart, but in the years since their heyday, the relationship between the two men changed. Their new dynamic will be on display when Hart inducts Hillbilly Jim into the WWE Hall of Fame during the 2018 Induction Ceremony, streaming live on WWE Network Friday, April 6, at 8 ET/5 PT.
Hillbilly Jim arrived on the scene in WWE in late 1984 as the protégé of Hulk Hogan, which made him a prime target for Hart and his collection of evildoers. The man from Mudlick, Ky., did battle with the likes of The Honky Tonk Man, Greg “The Hammer” Valentine and Earthquake, all as “The Mouth of The South” lurked at ringside, ready to help his charges gain victory by any means necessary.
But after the two men stepped away from the ring, they grew to become close friends. Hart and Hillbilly Jim even lived under the same roof on the hit WWE Network reality show “Legends House.”

There was some speculation Hulk Hogan could be the one to induct Hillbilly Jim (Jim himself wanted Hogan to be picked) but WWE decided to go with “The Mouth of the South.”
– Speaking of Jimmy Hart, below is video of him at the HBO Sports Andre the Giant documentary premiere earlier this week in Los Angeles. Regarding today’s crop of WWE Superstars, The Mouth of the South says he likes Elias because he plays guitar. Hart suggests Elias change his current look and come to Memphis to get a real rock & roll look, create a few hit records and go straight to the top.
– WWE has confirmed that the Hall of Fame Red Carpet special will return this year. It will air on Friday, April 6th at 7pm EST and air for one-hour. The 2018 Hall of Fame induction ceremony is scheduled to begin at 8pm EST that Friday on the WWE Network. They currently have it scheduled to air for 3 hours.
