Possible Reason Why WWE Changed Bad Blood to Great Balls of Fire

As previously noted, the American Airlines Center revealed that Brock Lesnar will be defending his WWE Universal Championship title at the WWE Great Balls of Fire pay-per-view event. The event is scheduled to take place on July 9th at the American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas.

The original plan was for this event to be called “Bad Blood”, but those plans were obviously nixed and the company decided to go with a different name. Bryan Alvarez speculated on the latest installment of Wrestling Observer Live that the company could have changed the name of the pay-per-view because the name “Bad Blood” has ties to Brian Pillman’s death.

For those not aware, the 1997 “Bad Blood” pay-pay-per view and the death of Brian Pillman were on the same day. Even though the company had two other “Bad Blood” events after 1997, the company is in a much more politically correct state now than it was back in 2003 and 2004, when they continued used the name after Pillman’s death.
