WWE star Enzo Amore was the recent guest on the “Sam Roberts Wrestling Podcast”, which you can listen to in full at this link. Below are some interview highlights:
On Enzo and Cass Having a Singles Run:
I’m hoping Big Cass gets a great singles’ run and vice versa. We pull for each other in that regard. If you remember back in the day when [Shawn] Michaels and Diesel were running hot as tag team champions, they had the IC title and Heavyweight championship; I can’t not see that in the future for me and Big Cass. Doesn’t matter who has got what around their waste, we’re homies you know?
On Being a Storyteller:
You can call us what you want, but at the end of the day, we’re entertainers. You can call it a wrestling show, but at the end of the day it’s a TV show. So, when you’re making live television, there’s no room for errors, so you can’t go out there and screw up, especially for example, a week ago, I’m on seven different segments running around getting changed and shooting live TV, and live promos with Ric Flair, and hotel beatdowns. More than anything, I prided myself when it was all set and done; the faith the company had in me to have seven segments on a television show– you have to tune in to see what can happen next. That used to be what I grew up on– which is the Attitude Era, because you never knew what was going to happen next. I think you can probably see the endgame here, with either me or Big Cass, with that being said, I got in the ring with Rusev once, and the next time I got into the ring with Rusev he kicked me in the “you know what.” Big Cass, if you actually have paid attention, hasn’t even touched Rusev yet; hasn’t had a chance to lay his hands on him, so I believe that sets up an intrigue for a potential match-up between those two guys [Note: Big Cass and Rusev will be facing off in the pre-show on this Sunday’s Roadblock PPV] but more than anything, with storytelling; what we do in the ring is storytelling. That same storytelling you do in the ring, you can do out of the ring because it’s a television show. So, to keep people tuned in with what’s going on, there’s great matchups in the ring, but you want to stay tuned because you want to see who is going to win that match, or what will happen next. There’s a storyline behind it. The same can be said with backstage interviews, and segments. I challenge myself to be able to do those things on a regular basis, like: what the heck is Enzo [Amore] going to do now? Will Big Cass have to bail him out, or does he have this on his own? Is the little guy going to be put in the situation this week, whether in the ring or out of the ring, and I believe that is the fun part about what we do.
On the Hotel Room Scene:
When I’m in the hotel room and I see Lana, it’s a “Pulp Fiction” moment. It’s John Travolta walking up to his boss’s door trying to talk himself out of it the entire time. For me, in this scenario, I was presented with a challenge that I had never seen before because for that time period, they didn’t want me to be Enzo. Enzo would have walked into the hotel room and started making Certified G jokes; with that being said, I had the mindset to go in there and just murder this right now, and be hilarious, and everyone is going to pop for it. I had an arsenal of material ready; but when I got there in the situation; the situation is that you deserve every beatdown that you receive. You walk into a hotel room with someone’s wife while she was naked. You said that you were going to stuff her turkey. I don’t remember exactly what I said, but of course he’s going to kick me in the “you know what,” so the next time I’m on television, we had to dial it back when I was put into that situation, so to garner those people’s sympathy, I started playing the shy..I don’t want to be here, and the second I walked into the situation I knew it wasn’t the right one, and I made a bad decision, and I wanted to get out of there. It wasn’t because I was scared of Rusev, it was because I didn’t want to do something with another man’s wife, and so, Enzo is a good guy at the end of the day. That was the role I was asked to play.
