WWE SMACKDOWN RESULTS – AUGUST 9, 2016

WWE Smackdown Opener:

Tonight’s WWE SmackDown opens with Charly Caruso approaching Randy Orton backstage. She mentions the main event against Alberto Del Rio tonight and asks how he’s staying focused on Brock Lesnar at SummerSlam. Orton says Lesnar may be big and bad but it only takes one RKO to get to Viperville. Del Rio appears and says Viperville sounds like a joke, something like Disneyland. Orton offers Del Rio a VIP experience but warns him that it’s a bumpy ride with a helluva landing. Del Rio threatens to break Orton’s arm and walks off. We go to the SmackDown opening video.

– We’re live from Bakersfield with Mauro Ranallo, David Otunga and JBL. Bray Wyatt makes his way to the ring as the arena lights up.

We get a look back at last week’s show when Ziggler and Rowan took out Dolph Ziggler and WWE Champion Dean Ambrose. Wyatt wants to make something clear – he did not fall to Ziggler last week, he was a victim. He says Ziggler was desperate. Wyatt says Ziggler ran him into the steel and everything went black for him after that. Wyatt says he is a god and no matter how Ziggler tries, he can never kill a god. Wyatt goes on and says this is his show now. Fans boo. Wyatt says there is no red or blue, this is him against the whole damn world. The music interrupts and out comes WWE Champion Dean Ambrose to a pop.

Ambrose calls Wyatt’s promos biblical mumbo-jumbo and knocks them both. He says it sounds like Wyatt is being a big baby. Ambrose says SmackDown belongs to the people and the WWE Champion, not Wyatt. Wyatt laughs at him and challenges him to come in the ring. This leads to Ziggler coming out. He stops by Ambrose but quickly rushes the ring and gets beat down. Ambrose begrudgingly makes the save but also gets beat down. Ambrose comes back and sends Rowan over the top. Bray grabs Ambrose for Sister Abigail but Ziggler tries to make the save with a superkick, hitting Ambrose instead. Ziggler freaks out at the accident and knocks Rowan off the apron but eats Sister Abigail. The Wyatt Family heads to the back together as Ambrose and Ziggler recover in the ring.

– Still to come, Orton vs. Del Rio. Also, American Alpha will be in action. Back to commercial.

– Back from the break and Ambrose is backstage with Ziggler. Ambrose isn’t sure that the superkick wasn’t an accident. They come face to face when Daniel Bryan and Shane McMahon get in between. They announce a tag team match for later tonight.

American Alpha vs. Mike Vega and Mikey O’Shea

We go to the ring and out comes Chad Gable and Jason Jordan. Local wrestlers Mikey O’Shea and Mike Vega wait in the ring. Before the match can begin, The Ascension’s music hits and out comes Konnor and Viktor. The Vaudevillains’ music hits and out comes Simon Gotch and Aiden English. Zack Ryder and Mojo Rawley are out next as The Hype Bros. also want to watch the match.

Vega and Gable start thigns off and Gable with a take down and Jordan tags in. Jordan with a waist lock take down and then he hits a dragon screw leg whip. Gable tags in and he hits a leaping leg wringer. Jordan tags in and they hit a double hip toss on O’Shea and hit a double drop kick. Vega with a forearn and Jordan does not like it. Jordan with an overhead belly-to-belly suplex and then a running shoulder in the corner. Gable tags in and they hit Grand Amplitude for the three count.

Winners: American Alpha

After the match, the other teams come into the ring and they fight with the Vaudevillains and American Alpha in the ring. Gable with a belly-to-belly suplex on Gotch and all three teams are outside the ring looking at American Alpha. We go to commercial.

Backstage:

We are back and Renee Young is with Miz and Maryse. Miz welcomes us to Day 127 of the Miz Intercontinental Championship World Tour. Miz tells Renee that you are looking at unmatched perfection as he crawls across the table towards his wife.

We have an Apollo Crews video package.

Miz and Maryse are laying across the table while Renee asks Miz a question about Crews. Miz says Maryse is the modern day equivalent of Aphrodite.

Becky Lynch vs. Eva Marie

Before the bell rings, Eva’s top comes off but she covers up before we see anything. Eva gets a towel from the referee and she leaves the ring.

The referee tells the ring announcer to mention that due to wardrobe malfunction, no match will happen.

Becky is interviewed and she says it is frustrating. Every time she steps in the ring, she is prepared to fight. Eva might have some sorry excuses for not wanting to wrestle. Becky says she is not going to the back two weeks in a row without fighting. Becky makes a challenge to anyone in the back.

Alexa Bliss comes out and she tells Becky to be careful what she wishes for because she might just get it. Alexa says she is here to bring bliss to Smackdown. She says there is no better way to make her debut than to beat Smackdown’s number one female draft pick. We go to commercial.

Becky Lynch vs. Alexa Bliss

The match is joined in progress and Alexa chokes Becky in the ropes and gets a near fall. Alexa sends Becky to the mat and gets a near fall. Alexa with punches and she gets another near fall. Alexa with a neck vise but Becky with punches. Alexa with a knee. Becky with clotheslines followed by a leg lariat and she hits a running forearm into the corner followed by an Exploder.

The building goes red and Eva Marie is announced as ready to compete and she is introduced again.

Alexa attacks Becky from behind and Alexa goes up top and hits Twisted Bliss for the three count.

Winner: Alexa Bliss

Charley Caruso is with Eva. Eva says she feels bad for Becky because her leg is 100 percent. She tried to get back in time, but Alexa took her place. She will be ready for her debut next week. Back to commercial.

Randy Orton vs. Alberto Del Rio

Back from the break and out comes Randy Orton as we get a look at his recent RKO on Brock Lesnar. Alberto Del Rio is out next.

They lock up and Del Rio escapes. They lock up again and Orton with a side head lock. Orton with a shoudler tackle and Del Rio goes to the apron to regroup. Del Rio gets back into the ring. Del Rio with a kick and he sends Orton into the turnbuckles. Orton with European uppercuts and he sends Del Rio into the turnbuckles. Orton with a hard Irish whip. Orton climbs the turnbuckles and punches Del Rio but Del Rio gets away. Orton with a clothesline and kicks. Orton catapults Del Rio into the bottom rope and Orton gets a near fall.

Del Rio kicks Orton and punches him in the midsection. Del Rio goes for a splash but Orton moves and Del Rio goes to the apron. Orton drops Del Rio against the ropes and Del Rio goes to the floor as we go to commercial.

We are back and Orton with the Garvin Stomp followed by a knee drop. Orton wtih another boot to the chest and he gets a near fall. Del Rio with a lungblower and he sends Orton shoulder first into the ring post. Alberto slams the arm into the ring steps a few times. Del Rio send Orton back into the ring and Del Rio goes up top and hits a forearm to the injured shoulder for a near fall. Del Rio with an arm bar. Orton with a drop kick. Orton with an uppercut with Del Rio on the turnbuckles and Del Rio with a cross arm breaker in the ropes. Del Rio goes up top and Orton crotches him. Orton with a superplex and both men are down.

Del Rio with punches and Orton with kicks. Orton with two clotheslines and he ducks a clothesline from Del Rio and hits a power slam. Del Rio avoids the IEDDT and sends Orton to the apron but Orton drops Del Rio on the to rope. Del Rio avoids a neck breaker and Del Rio tries for the float over into the Cross Arm Breaker but Orton avoids it and he sends Del Rio to the apron and hits an IEDDT. Orton looks around and twists to the mat and does the RKO push ups but Del Rio is able to get to the floor.

Orton follows and sends Del Rio into Yeatonville. Orton rearranges the announce table. Del Rio hits Orton in the arm with a chair and the referee calls for the bell.

Winner: Randy Orton (by disqualification)

After the match, Del Rio hits Orton again with the chair and then he sends Orton shoulder first into the ring post a few times. Del Rio brings the chair into the ring, but he takes too much time celebrating at ringside so Orton is able to recover and he gives Del Rio an RKO onto the chair.

Backstage:

Rhyno is in the back getting ready and Heath Slater stops by and he says that Daniel Bryan is giving him the opportunity to face him for a Smackdown contract. Heath says he has two kids and he needs this job. He just bought a pool. Rhyno says he won his primary election last week and he cannot let his constitutents down. Heath says he has to worry about his four kids and Rhyno reminds him he said two. Heath said he meant four. Rhyno asks Heath about his pool and Heath says it is an above ground pool. Rhyno says he cannot help Heath. We go to commercial.

– We get a segment from earlier today where WWE Intercontinental Champion The Miz rolled up on Scooby-Doo. Scooby locked Miz in the Mystery Machine and drove off in his Audi.

Heath Slater vs. Rhyno

We go to the ring and out comes Heath Slater. If he wins this match, he gets a SmackDown contract. Rhyno is out next.

They lock up and Slater with a waist lock but Rhyno with a wrist lock. Slater with a reversal but Rhyno with a shoulder tackle and short arm clothesline. Rhyno with punches but Slater punches back. Slater with a hard Irish whip and clothesline. Slater gets a near fall. Slater gets another near fall. Slater with a reverse chin lock. Rhyno punches Slater but Slater pulls Rhyno down by the hair and he gets a near fall.

Slater with a knee to the back and he returns to the reverse chin lock. Rhyno with a belly-to-belly suplex and then he sets for the GORE. Slater sends Rhyno into the turnbuckles and Slater with a rollup but the referee refuses to count when the he sees Slater’s feet on the ropes. Slater argues with the referee and then he turns around into a GORE for the three count.

Winner: Rhyno

Backstage:

Erick Rowan appears on the TitanTron. He says an Army of Sheep led by a Wolf will defeat an Army of Wolves led by a Sheep. Bray says he is here to see that Rowan will die for their cause. Wyatt tells Rowan to destroy.

Backstage:

Back from the break and Slater is throwing a fit backstage to Shane and Bryan. He calls them losers and says he’s out, he was too good for SmackDown anyway. He storms off and they look amused as Shane had a contract in his hand that they were going to offer Slater.

Carmella vs. Natalya

We go to the ring and out comes Carmella with a promo. Natalya made a big mistake last week so tonight, Carmella is going to slap her so hard she goes blind. Carmella keeps talking when Natalya runs out and attacks her. Carmella gets the upperhand and drops Natalya, then brings her in the ring. They brawl and the referee separates them for the bell.

Carmella with a Thesz Press but Natalya sends Carmella into the ropes. Natalya chokes Carmella in the ropes and gets a near fall. Natalya with a suplex and then she hits another one. Natalya kicks Carmella in the corner. Carmella kicks Natalya but Natalya with a snap mare and she stretches Carmella. Carmella gets back to her feet but Natalya pulls Carmella to the mat again. Natalya walks across Carmella’s chest but Carmella with a rollup for a near fall. Natalya with a clothesline and she sits down on Carmella for a near fall. Natalya with a forearm to the back.

Natalya with an abdominal stretch and Natalya pulls on the far leg to stretch Carmella. Carmella with elbows but Natalya with a knee. Natalya with a discus clothesline and she gets a near fall. Natalya sets for the Sharpshooter but she takes too long and Carmella kicks Natalya away and then Carmella with a drop toe hold and the Code of Silence and Natalya taps out.

Winner: Carmella

Back to commercial.

– We are back and Renee Young is at the Talking Smack table and she is here to talk about the match between John Cena and AJ Styles. We have a video package.

– We go to the back and Baron Corbin is attacking Kalisto. Baron picks him up and says that is for costing him the Intercontinental Championship.

Dean Ambrose and Dolph Ziggler vs. Bray Wyatt and Erick Rowan

It’s time for the main event as Dolph Ziggler makes his way out. WWE Champion Dean Ambrose is out next to a pop. Back to commercial.

Rowan and Wyatt attack Ziggler and Ambrose as the bell rings. Wyatt punches Ambrose but Ambrose gingerly avoids a clothesline and hits a cross body. Ambrose with punches and Ziggler tags himself in. Ambrose and Ziggler double team Wyatt. Wyatt with an uppercut to the back of the head. Wyatt with a forearm but Ziggler with a drop kick and Rowan tags in. Wyatt pushes Ziggler away on a Hesitation DDT and then Rowan hits a clothesline from the apron and we go to commercial.

We are back and Wyatt slams Ziggler and misses the back senton when Ziggler moves. Ambrose tags in and hits running forearms and then clotheslines Wyatt. Ambrose with a running forearm into the corner followed by a bulldog. Ambrose with a pescado onto Rowan on the floor. Ambrose comes back in and Wyatt with a clothesline. Rowan tags in and he hits a splash and gets a near fall. Rowan with the double atomic noogie and then he puts Ambrose on the turnbuckles and connects with forearms across the chest. Ambrose slaps Rowan but Rowan with a boot to knock Ambrose off the turnbuckles and he falls to the floor.

Wyatt tags in and Ambrose sends Wyatt into the ringside barrier. Ambrose comes off the apron and Wyatt catches him and hits a uranage on the apron. Wyatt goes into the corner and he leans back to look at Dean and then Ambrose kicks Wyatt but Wyatt with a double thrust to the throat. Dean bounces off the ropes and misses a clothesline but he does not miss a neck breaker. Ziggler and rowan tag in and Ziggler with two clotheslines and a splash into the corner followed by a neck breaker. Ziggler wtih a leaping elbow drop for a near fall. Ziggler with a rollup for a near fall and then he hits the Hesitation DDT for a near fall.

Ziggler has a super kick blocked and Rowan with a spinning back heel kick for a near fall. Ziggler with a Zig Zag but Wyat breaks it up. Ambrose sends Wyatt to the floor and Ambrose hits a suicide dive. Rowan goes for a uranage but Ziggler with a super kick for the three count.

Winners: Dean Ambrose and Dolph Ziggler

After the match, Ambrose kicks Ziggler and hits the double underhook DDT.
