Pre-Show:
The WWE NXT “Takeover: Brooklyn II” pre-show opens up with Renee Young. She’s live from the Barclays Center with Mauro Ranallo and WWE Hall of Famer Lita on the panel. This is Renee and Lita’s one year anniversary of broadcasting together. They plug the WWE Network and tonight’s show. We get a look at last week’s show with Byron
Saxton talking to Shinsuke Nakamura and NXT Champion Samoa Joe.
– We see video from earlier today of Nakamura arriving. We also see Joe arriving and being met by security, apparently sent by General Manager William Regal. We go back to the panel before Charly Caruso shows us a bunch of rowdy NXT fans outside. We go back to the panel for a video and discussion on tonight’s NXT Women’s Title match. Mauro goes with Asuka to retain while Lita predicts Bayley will win the title again. The panel talks Austin Aries vs. No Way Jose next. We see video from earlier today of Bobby Roode arriving. Roode talks to Andrea D’Marco, disses Brooklyn and says he’s taking NXT to that next level tonight, making it glorious. The panel talks Roode vs. Andrade “Cien” Almas now. Mauro predicts Roode to win while Lita goes with Almas.
– We go backstage to Andrea and Billie Kay. She says Ember Moon is going to be a loser tonight in her debut. Billie plans on showing why she’s the next NXT Women’s Champion. We go back to the panel. Lita warns Billie to focus on Ember Moon before worrying about the title. Charly is down at ringside as fans make their way in. Charly plugs the WWE Network and we get a video for tonight’s NXT Tag Team Title match. Mauro predicts new champions in Johnny Gargano and Tommaso Ciampa. Lita agrees. Renee leads us to a video for tonight’s main event. Lita and Mauro also predict a new NXT Champion tonight. That’s it for the pre-show.
NXT ‘Takeover: Brooklyn 2’ Opener:
WWE NXT “Takeover: Brooklyn II” opens with a great video package on the NXT Superstars looking back to one year ago. We’re live from the Barclays Center with a hot crowd. Tom Phillips welcomes us. He’s joined by Corey Graves and like on RAW, their set is away from the ring.
No Way Jose vs. Austin Aries
We go right to the ring and out comes No Way Jose to a pop. He’s accompanied by a big conga line. Austin Aries is out next, also to a nice reaction. Aries tries to avoid Jose at first and he gets a waist lock and take down. Aries slaps Jose in the back and he taunts Jose. The referee holds Jose back. Aries offers his hand and Jose shakes it and slaps Aries with the other hand. Jose with a waist lock take down and slap to the back. Jose stomps on Aries’ head and then he chops Aries. Jose with an Irish whip and Aries floats over but holds on to the ropes when Jose winds up for a punch.
Aries goes to the floor and Jose chases him. Aries with a kick and Jose with a punch that sends Aries to the floor. Jose with a double sledge off the steps. Aries goes up the ramp but Jose stops him and sends Aries into the apron. Jose keeps Aries from getting out of the ringside area. Jose sends Aries into the ring and Irish whips Aries but Aries with an elbow. Jose gets Aries on his shoulders on the turnbuckles but Aries is able to escape and he drops Jose on the top rope as Aries goes to the floor. Aries wtih a knee and forearms followed by kicks.
Aries with knees to Jose. Aries with an Irish whip and elbow into the corner followed by a snap mare and boot rake to the face. Aries with an elbow to the back of the neck from the turnbuckles for a near fall. Aries with a rear chin lock. Jose with punches but Aries with a back elbow and a leaping elbow drop for a near fall. Aries with punches but it makes Jose angry. Jose with punches and he sends Aries over the top rope. Jose sends Aries into the turnbuckles on the ring post. Jose with a running chop and he does another one that sends Aries into the ring. Jose with a back body drop.
The referee pulls Jose away while Aries holds on to the ropes. Jose pulls Aries up but Aries with an atomic drop to the knee followed by a suplex and he applies the Last Chancery. Jose tries to get to the ropes and he succeeds. Aries kicks Jose and then he sets for a forearm but Jose gets the shot in first. Aries with forearms and chops. Aries goes for a discus forearm but Jose gets Aries up and hits a TKO for a near fall. Jose sets for the full nelson slam but Aries is able to get to the ropes and the momentum sends Jose to the floor. Aries with a suicide dive.
Aries gets Jose in the ring and hits a neck breaker with Jose caught in the ropes. Aries with a running drop kick into the corner and Aries goes for a brainbuster but Jose counters with a Falcon Arrow for a near fall. Aries with an elbow and a rolling elbow but Jose comes off the ropes with a clothesline that flips Aries. Jose goes for the full nelson slam but Aries backs Jose into the turnbuckles. Aries with a crucifix bomb. Aries with a running drop kick for a near fall.
Aries goes up top for the 450 splash but Jose rolls away and connects with an uppercut. Jose goes to the turnbuckles and he sets for a superplex but Aries stops him. Jose with punches and Aries with a foerarm and sunset flip power bomb into the Last Chancery and Jose taps out.
Winner: Austin Aries
After the match, Aries gets up as Jose tries to recover. Aries has his hand raised and we get replays. Aries attacks Jose while he’s trying to get up. Aries locks in Last Chancery again. Aries keeps the hold locked until the music hits and out comes Hideo Itami to a big pop. Aries stands up and he’s wide-eyed. Itami comes out in a suit and enters the ring. Itami takes his jacket off but Aries decks him. Fans boo as Aries attacks. Itami turns it around and knocks Aries around with strikes. Itami nails the GTS to a big pop. Aries hits the corners to pose for fans.
– Ric Flair is in the crowd tonight.
– We see Samoa Joe getting ready in his locker room. We also see Shinsuke Nakamura and he is joined by Kota Ibushi and Funaki.
Ember Moon vs. Billie Kay
They lock up and Billie with a side head lock. Billie with a top wrist lock but Ember with a hammer lock. Billie with an elbow and a leg trip but Moon with a head scissors take down. Billie with a hip toss and Moon lands on her feet. Moon sends Billie into the corner. Moon goes for a crucifix bomb but Billie holds on and then she connects with a forearm to the back and then a punch for a near fall. Billie with a forearm and head butt.
Ember with a springboard cross body for a near fall. Billie with an elbow and sole food for a near fall. Billie with punches. Billie goes for a power bomb but Ember blocks it. Billie with forearms to the back. Billie goes for a Widow’s Peak and Ember refuses to give up. Ember powers out of the hold but Billie is able to hit a Gory Bomb and gets a near fall. Billie gets another near fall.
Billie argues with the referee. Ember with a rollup for a near fall. Ember wtih a forearm and Billie fires back. Billie gets Ember on her shoulders but Ember with elbows followed by a back elbow and back heel kick to the midsection. Ember with a neck breaker followed by a suplex and kip up. Ember with a handspring clothesline into the corner. Ember goes up top and hits the O Face for the three count.
Winner: Ember Moon
– They air the pre-show video of Bobby Roode arriving again. We get a video package for the next match.
Bobby Roode vs. Andrade “Cien” Almas
Back to the ring and Bobby Roode comes out to a really “glorious” entrance as the Barclays Center sings along. Andrade “Cien” Almas is out next.
Bobby acknowledges and agrees with the crowd as they chant This is Glorious before they lock up. Roode with a hammer lock and snap mare. They lock up and Roode with a wrist lock. Almas with a reversal but Roode with a side head lock. Almas goes for a drop kick but Roode holds on to the ropes and then he poses. Roode tells Almas to stand back. They lock up and Almas backs Roode into the corner. Almas with a clean break but Roode with a kick to the midsection. Roode tries to throw Almas to the floor but Almas hangs in the ropes. Roode laughs but he charges at Almas. Almas with a chop.
Almas with an Irish whip and then Roode drops down and Almas kicks him. Almas with a head scissors to send Roode to the floor. Almas with a slingshot kick and he goes for a dive but Roode returns to the ring. Almas gestures to Roode and Roode runs into a shoulder. Almas goes up top and Roode hits the ropes to crotch Almas. Roode kicks Almas. Roode sends Almas into the turnbuckles but Almas with chops. Roode with a kick and chop.
Roode with an Irish whip or two and he connects with a running knee into the corner. Roode sets for a suplex and he gets Almas up for a delayed vertical suplex and Roode gets a near fall. Roode with a knee to the back. Roode with a reverse chin lock. Almas lands on his feet on a suplex attempt and Almas with a forearm. Roode goes to the turnbuckles and Almas with a double jump drop kick. Almas with a double jump plancha onto Roode and he sends Roode back into the ring. Almas with a springboard corkscrew cross body for a near fall.
Almas with a bulldog out of a wheelbarrow and he gets a near fall. Almas with forearms and he signals for the running knees. Roode gets up and he hits a clothesline for a near fall. Roode puts Almas on the turnbuckles and he climbs them for a German Superplex. Almas with elbows. Roode recovers and hits a German Superplex but Almas lands on his feet. Almas with a straitjacket suplex for a near fall.
Almas goes for the quebrada into a moonsault but Roode gets his knees up. Roode goes for a fisherman’s buster but Almas counters with an inside cradle. Almas and Roode exchange forearms. Almas with a pinwheel kick and Almas signals for the running knee strike and he hits it. Almas goes for the hammer lock DDT but Roode with an elbow. Roode with another elbow but Almas with a kick. Roode with a spinebuster and a pump handle power slam for the three count.
Winner: Bobby Roode
After the match, Roode stands tall over Almas as his “glorious” exit begins. We get replays and come back to Roode posing under the spotlight.
– We go to footage of Triple H with the people from Orange County Choppers and the reveal of the trophy for the winner of the Cruiserweight Classic.
– We see Kota Ibushi, Rich Swann, Noam Dar, and Brian Kendrick in the crowd
– Johnny Gargano is in the locker room and he is tossed a t-shirt. Tommaso explains the shirt and says they Do It Yourself.
NXT Tag Team Title Match: Johnny Gargano and Tommaso Ciampa vs. The Revival
We go to the ring and out comes Tommaso Ciampa and Johnny Gargano to a pop. NXT Tag Team Champions Dash and Dawson are out next.
Dawson and Ciampa start things off and they lock up. Dawson backs Ciampa into the corner and he gives a clean break. Dawson with a wrist lock take down. Ciampa with a reversal and he keeps Dawson from making the tag. Dawson with a reversal into a side head lock take down. Ciampa with a head scissors and Dawson escapes. Dawson with a chop and then he gets to the floor to avoid a chop from Ciampa.
Dawson with a kick and side head lock. Dawson blocks a hip toss and a side head lock take down. Ciampa with a chop to Dawson and then Wilder. Gargano gets in a chop. Gargano tags in and Ciampa sends Gargano into the corner with a double knee strike. Ciampa with a clothesline and Gargano gets a near fall. Gargano with an arm bar. Wilder tries to pull Dawson into the corner and the referee gets pulled out of position and Dawson takes Gargano down.
Wilder tags in and Gargano works on the shoulder. Wilder goes for an O’Connor Roll but Gargano holds on to the ropes and hits a drop kick for a near fall. Gargano with an arm bar but Wilder with a slam and he tags in Dawson. Dawson misses an elbow drop and Gargano with arm drags into an arm bar. Gargano floats over in the corner but Dawson with a back elbow and he stomps on the arm. Wilder tags in and he punches Gargano and connects with an elbow. Gargano goes under Dawson and then he gets back into the ring when Wilder goes to the floor. Ciampa gets into the ring and Gargano and Ciampa send Wilder to the floor and Dawson goes to the floor. Gargano with a suicide dive to Wilder while Ciampa hits a running knee off the apron to Dawson.
Ciampa tags in and he sends Wilder back into the ring. Wilder goes to the floor and Ciampa follows. Dawson tags in and Ciampa with forearms and elbows. Dawson sends Ciampa into the ropes and hits a belly-to-back suplex for a near fall. Wilder tags in and they both punch Ciampa in the corner. Wilder wtih a chop. Dawson tags in and Wilder with a drop toe hold and Dawson with an elbow drop for a near fall. Dawson with a reverse chin lock. Ciampa with an arm drag to escape. Ciampa fights out of the corner but Dawson stops Ciampa from making the tag. Ciampa with a sunset flip for a near fall. Ciampa kicks wilder out of the ring and Dawson pulls Gargano off the apron and punches Johnny.
Wilder tags in and they hit an assisted gourdbuster for a near fall. Wilder with a forearm. Wilder with a reverse chin lock and Ciampa with a jaw breaker but Wilder keeps Ciampa from making the tag. Dawson tags in and he kicks Ciampa and gets a near fall. Dawson with a body scissors and he rubs the forearm across the forehead. Ciampa tries to get into the corner and Wilder falls into the ring and the referee does not see the tag so he keeps Ciampa in the match. Dawson and Wilder with a back breaker and a knee drop off the turnbuckles for a near fall.
Dawson with forearms and Ciampa wants more. Dawson with a clothesline. Dawson knocks Gargano off the apron. Dawson misses a splash into the corner and Ciampa tries to make the tag but Wilder misses a knee. Gargano tags in and he clotheslines Dawson and hits a back elbow. Gargano with an overhead belly-to-belly throw to Wilder. Dawson with an elbow. Gargano with a roll up into a round kick and then he hits a neck breaker for a near fall.
Gargano gets sent to the apron and Wilder tries to interfere but Gargano kicks him away. Gargano with a slingshot spear but Dawson kicks out. Dawson misses a punch. Wilder makes the blind tag and Dawson hits a DDT and Wilder gets a near fall. Dawson tags back in and Gargano with a rollup on Dawson when Ciampa pulls Wilder out of the ring. Ciampa tags in and Ciampa with the arm bar submission and Gargano holds Wilder from getting back in the ring but Wilder gets free and he knocks Ciampa off Dawson. Wilder picks up Dawson and goes for a double suplex but Gargano with a spear to Wilder and Ciampa with an inside cradle on Dawson.
Ciampa and Dawson go face to face and then they exchange forearms. Ciampa with knees and a slap. Ciampa with a jumping knee and Dawson with a punch to stop a rollling forearm. Gargano with a super kick to Dawson as they escape Shatter Machine. Gargano and Ciampa with the running knee and super kick combination and the referee sees Wilder’s foot on the rope so he continues the match. Ciampa with a knee to Dawson and Gargano with a super kicks. Dawson sends Ciampa into the post.
Gargano punches Dawson and Wilder with a clip to Gargano. Dawson tags in and he holds the knee and Wilder with a boot to the knee from the turnbuckles. Dawson with a trailer hitch and Gargano tries to fight through the pain but he has to tap out.
Winners: Scott Dawson and Dash Wilder
After the match, Dash and Dawson stand tall with their titles as we go to replays. We come back to Gargano and Ciampa sitting down in the ring as The Revival heads to the back bragging. They leave and fans start cheering for Gargano and Ciampa, giving them a standing ovation. They leave together with Gargano selling the knee injury and apologizing to his partner.
– We see Becky Lynch and Sasha Banks in the crowd. We see Charlotte in another part of the crowd.
NXT Women’s Championship Match: Asuka vs. Bayley
We go to the ring and out comes Bayley to a big pop. NXT Women’s Champion Asuka is out next. We get formal ring introductions from Hamilton.
They lock up and Asuka with a side head lock, but Bayley escapes. Asuka goes for the arm but Bayley is able to push her away. Asuka with a waist lock and Bayley escapes. They go for a Greco Roman Knuckle Lock and they jockey for position. Bayley with a rollup for a near fall. Bayley wtih a La Magistral for a near fall. Bayley with a jackknife cover for a near fall. Bayley with an elbow in the corner. Asuka with an Irish whip but Bayley with an elbow. Bayley comes off the turnbuckles and Asuka with a knee to the face and Bayley holds her nose. Asuka laughs at the result.
Bayley gets back into the ring and Asuka with a series of hips to the head. Asuka with an Irish whip and a running hip into the corner. Asuka with a head scissors in the ropes and the referee warns Asuka. Bayley sends Asuka into the turnbuckles but Asuka sends Bayley into the turnbuckels. Bayley sends Asuka to the apron and Bayley with a forearm but she misses a shoulder and Asuka with a series of kicks and a back heel kick. Asuka with a sliding kick on the apron to the head and Asuka gets a near fall.
Asuka sends Bayley into the turnbuckles and Bayley says she has had enough and she send Asuka into the turnbuckles. Bayley sends Asuka into the turnbuckles one more time. Bayley with a suplex. Bayley with an elbow to the back followed by a clothesline and a knee drop for a near fall. Bayley runs Asuka into the corner and then she hits a running elbow into the corner. Bayley goes to the apron and she ducks a forearm but Asuka with a kick. Asuka misses a hip strike and gets caught in the ropes. Bayley with forearms and then she drops Asuka on the middle drop as Bayley goes to the floor. Bayley with a cross body for a near fall.
Bayley goes up top but Asuka stops Bayley for a moment. Bayley kicks Asuka away and goes for a cross body but misses. Asuka with a Shining Wizard and she gets a near fall. Asuka puts Bayley on the turnbuckles and Asuka goes up for a superplex but Bayley holds on to the top rope. Bayley with punches and she escapes and puts Asuka in the tree of woe. Bayley with a double jump elbow drop and she gets a near fall.
Asuka pushes Bayley and then they go back and forth with forearms as they get back to their feet. Asuka takes the advantage with the forearms but Bayley with a knee to the midsection. Asuka with a flying hip strike. Bayley with a knee to Asuka. Asuka trips Bayley and she tries for the Stretch Muffler but Bayley is able to escape. Asuka with a rolup and Bayley with a bridge for a near fall. Asuka with an ankle lock.
Bayley tries to roll through to escape but Asuka is able to hold on as she anticipates the counter attempts. Bayley kicks Asuka. Asuka with a series of kicks but Bayley blocks the sixth or seventh one and she tells Asuka to hit her in the face and Asuka does it. Bayley with a backslide for a near fall. Bayley with punches and forearms. Bayley with a back elbow and forearms. Asuka with a spinning back fist.
Bayley goes for a belly-to-belly suplex but Asuka with the Asuka Lock and Bayley rolls through and gets to her feet. Bayley tries to get to the ropes but Asuka keeps her in the center of the ring. Bayley with a rollup for a near fall. Asuka with a kick and Bayley gets up and kicks Asuka. Asuka with another kick and a round kick for the three count.
Winner: Asuka
After the match, Asuka recovers as Bayley is down. We see Becky Lynch and WWE Women’s Champion Sasha Banks looking on from ringside. Asuka takes her title and hits the corner as we go to replays. We come back and Asuka helps Bayley to her feet. Fans cheer as Asuka checks on her and they hug. Asuka leaves with the title in the air as Bayley looks on from her knees. Fans start cheering and she also gets a standing ovation. Fans chant “thank you Bayley” as she gets to her feet and takes it all in. She goes to ringside and hugs Sasha and Becky, then goes over to Charlotte for a hug. She then hugs her mom and superfan Izzy before heading to the back.
– Samoa Joe walks in the back and he is a man on a mission as he pushes a security member out of the way. Shinsuke Nakamura gets ready for his walk to the ring. We go to a video package.
NXT Championship Match: Samoa Joe vs. Shinsuke Nakamura
Violinist Lee England Jr. comes out and begins a crazy introduction to Shinsuke Nakamura’s entrance. Nakamura is out next to a big pop. He takes his time heading to the ring as fans pop and the violinist follows. Fans chant Nakamura’s name as we wait for his opponent. The music hits and out comes NXT Champion Samoa Joe to a reaction. Some fans chant Joe’s name as he walks to the ring. He enters and they mix it up just a little bit before Hamilton does formal ring introductions. Fans are hot already.
They lock up and Joe has to be pulled out of the corner. They lock up again and Joe with a kick and Nakamura kicks back. Nakamura takes Joe to the mat and covers Joe but Joe gets his shoulders up before the referee can make a one count. Nakamura kicks Joe away. They lock up and Joe backs Nakamura into the ropes and Joe with a wrist lock. Nakamura tries to get leverage to get out of the hold but Joe maintains the wrist lock. Nakamura with a reversal after some gymnastics and Nakamura with a side head lock take down. Joe with a head scissors.
They lock up and Joe with a side head lock. Joe holds on when Nakamura sends him off the ropes. Nakamura goes after Joe’s face and he backs Joe into the corner. Nakamura with the arm swinging head against the chest break. Nakamura with knees to the midsection as he backs Joe into the corner. Nakamura with rapid short kicks as he chokes Joe in the corner. Joe goes to the floor. Joe brings Nakamura to the floor and he connects with jabs. Nakamura blocks being sent into the apron and he sends Joe into the apron. Joe with a chop as the referee continues his count. They get back into the ring before the ten count.
Nakamura with a knee. Joe with an Irish whip and an enzuigiri in the corner. Nakamura with a kick that allows him to put Joe over the edge of the apron. Nakamura with a running knee but he goes for a knee drop on the apron but Joe gets out of the way and Nakamura lands awkwardly on the floor. Joe with a suicide dive. Joe sends Nakamura back into the ring and he gets a near fall. Nakamura with a punch and knee but Joe with a running back elbow and then he chops Nakamura and follows with a kick and snap elbow drop for a near fall. Joe with a Dragon Sleeper and an arm bar.
Nakamura gets to the ropes and Joe has to release the hold. Joe with a shot to the knee followed by a power bomb for a near fall and then he turns it into a Boston Crab. Joe turns it into an STF and Nakamura tries to get to the ropes. Joe turns it into a crossface to trap the arm and make it more difficult for Nakamura to break the hold. Nakamura leans back and gets a near fall with a rollup. Nakamura with an enzuigiri after Joe blocks a kick.
Joe with a running kick to the chest. Nakamura misses a kick and hits a round kick and both men are down. Nakamura with forearms, kicks, and knees. Nakamura with a round kick and then he runs into the corner with a knee. Nakamura puts Joe on the top rope and he connects with a running knee. Nakamura sets for a reverse exploder but Joe with a knee. Joe with a reverse atomic drop and a running boot, but Joe misses the back senton when Nakamura moves. Nakamura with a front face lock. Joe escapes but Nakamura with a take down and a series of knees to the head. Nakamura charges into the corner and Joe hits an STJoe.
Joe puts Nakamura on the turnbuckles for the Musclebuster but Nakamura kicks Joe away and Nakamura with a flying boot off the turnbuckles and both men are down. Nakamura and Joe exchange forearms but Nakamura gets the advantage. Joe with a punch but Nakamura with punches. Joe with slaps and forearms followed by a clothesline that flips Nakamura. Joe tries for a discus clothesline but Nakamura tries for a cross arm breaker but Joe holds on to the arm to prevent Nakamura from extending the arm. Nakamura with a triangle. Joe gets a near fall and then he applies a cloverleaf and he sits on Nakamura’s back. Nakamura gets to the ropes.
Joe goes for the choke but Nakamura backs Joe into the corner. Joe reapplies the hold but Nakamura with a snap mare. Joe with a clothesline for a near fall. Joe with forearms to the head and then he applies the choke and tries to add the body scissors. Nakamura gets to the ropes to force Joe to release the hold. Joe puts Nakamura on the turnbuckles and connects with elbows but Nakamura fires back with elbows. Nakamura kicks Joe and Joe chops Nakamura and head butts him. Joe with elbows but Nakamura with a German suplex. Nakamura sets for Kinshasa but Joe with a power slam for a near fall.
Joe with jabs in the corner and he puts Nakamura on the turnbuckles. Nakamura kicks Joe away but Joe with an enzuigiri followed by a musclebuster but Nakamura kicks out at two. Joe sets for another musclebuster but Nakamura escapes and hits Kinshasa but Joe kicks out at two. Joe holds his jaw after kicking out. Nakamura with a flying knee to the back of the head. Nakamura with Kinshasa for the three count.
Winner: Shinsuke Nakamura
After the match, Nakamura celebrates his victory.
Joe goes to the back with the medical staff watching him.
