Two Titles Change at WWE Battleground, First WWE SummerSlam Match, The Great Khali Returns

- The New Day's Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods defeated The Usos to become the new SmackDown Tag Team Champions in the opening match of tonight's WWE Battleground pay-per-view in Philadelphia.

This is the first SmackDown Tag Team Title run for The New Day after they came over in the Superstar Shakeup this past April but they are now three-time tag team champions in WWE. The Usos won the titles back on the March 21st SmackDown episode, defeating American Alpha.

Also, Kevin Owens became the new WWE United States Champion by defeating AJ Styles. Owens is now a three-time WWE US Champion. Styles just won the title back at the July 7th WWE live event from Madison Square Garden.

- The first WWE SummerSlam match is now official for next month's pay-per-view - Natalya vs. SmackDown Women's Champion Naomi. Natalya won the Fatal 5 Way Elimination Match at tonight's Battleground pay-per-view to become the new #1 contender. The other match participants were Charlotte Flair, Lana, Tamina Snuka and Becky Lynch.

No other matches have been confirmed for SummerSlam but Monday's RAW will see Sasha Banks vs. Bayley with the winner facing RAW Women's Champion Alexa Bliss at SummerSlam.

SummerSlam takes place on August 20th from the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

- Former World Heavyweight Champion The Great Khali made his return to WWE at tonight’s Battleground pay-per-view from Philadelphia.

Khali returned during the Punjabi Prison main event between Randy Orton and WWE Champion Jinder Mahal. After Orton fought off The Singh Brothers and looked to be close to winning the match, Khali came out and choked Orton from the other side of the structure as Jinder escaped to win.

The post-match celebration saw Jinder and Khali celebrate with the WWE Title while Orton sold the attack on the floor. Battleground went off the air with Jinder and Khali standing tall with the title.

Khali last worked for WWE in 2014. He left the company in November of that year after his contract expired. His last WWE match came on October 28th, 2014 – a SmackDown loss to Rusev. No word yet on Khali’s current status with WWE but we will keep you updated.
