As seen at Sunday’s WWE Backlash event, Jinder Mahal defeated Randy Orton to capture the WWE Title for the first time ever. Going into the event, the plan has always for Mahal to defeat Orton for the title, however the original idea pitched was for him to drop the title the following week on SmackDown Live after Backlash.
Bryan Alvarez mentioned on Wrestling Observer Live that those plans have changed multiple times since the initial push for Mahal to the top of the card on the SmackDown brand. It is very unlikely now that Mahal will not drop the title on SmackDown this week and the company will most-likely give him a lengthily Title run now.
