Bill Goldberg at The Royal Rumble, Why Goldberg Squashed Brock Lesnar, New Deal With WWE

Sunday night we witnessed the return of Goldberg to a WWE ring for the first time in over a decade and, in one of the most shocking displays of 2016, the complete and utter dismantling of the “Beast Incarnate” Brock Lesnar.

There may have been a method to WWE’s madness because, according to a brand new report from James McKenna, the 49-year-old wCw legend has inked a deal to appear in the 2017 Royal Rumble match for just the second time in his career. This could be why WWE booked Goldberg to look so strong as he squashed Brock Lesnar at tonight’s Survivor Series pay-per-view in Toronto.

No word yet on a potential WrestleMania 33 match but anything is possible.

This is certainly a big for WWE, as the upcoming annual Rumble pay-per-view returns to the Alamodome in San Antonio, an arena that boasts an attendance record of over 66,000.

We had already reported that the company would be pulling out all the stops for the show as they look to set an attendance record of their own, hoping to top their own Rumble record of 60,000, a number set in the very same building.

Earlier this week we saw the return of The Undertaker to Smackdown Live, just in time to start the build towards what will surely be an eventful WrestleMania season. With the return of John Cena imminent, and news that Goldberg will appear in the match for the first time since 2004, WWE is off to a great start. Much like this year’s Survivor Series festivities in Toronto, we will also likely see a NXT Takeover live special in the area the night before the Royal Rumble, as well as two big Raw and Smackdown television tapings in a span of four days; a move meant to attract attendees from all around the world.
